I'm upgrading to a new optical drive and when I take out the old one, the laptop cannot boot off the hard drive!
Boot order in BIOS is HDD first, the rest disabled.
I'm running RAID and the BIOS shows the RAID under the list of HDDs but for some reason it won't boot off it till I put the old optical drive back in.
It just says insert proper boot device.
Why???
Do these laptops require the optical drive to boot? If so that is extremely silly.

Anyone help please?

I get the same thing if I rip my Blu-ray drive out of my G50V-A2.
I'm also RAID 0'd, and my boot order is empty except for the hard disk.
It does the same thing even if you hit ESC to select the boot device.
This is probably a BIOS bug. -
This is bad, I also bought a sata optical bay to sata hdd adaptor caddy to fit to give me a third drive for storage but if it won't boot without an optical I'm so screwed.

It might work as long as there is some sort of device in that bay. I'm not sure.

I tried updating to the newer BIOS but now my standby won't resume properly and it didn't fix the boot issue either.
Bad bad bad.
Now to figure out how to flash backwards to the older BIOS. -
You should try to contact Asus.

I reverted back to the older BIOS and standby works again.
Sadly this thing won't boot without an optical drive, or with a 3rd HDD in place of the optical.
Shame too. I was looking forward to having two SSDs in RAID0 with a third conventional HDD for storage.
G50VT won't boot, can't find boot device.
