Well an example is that when I play FEAR (1st one) it runs at 55-60 FPS but then out of nowhere it drops to 19-22 FPS after about 10 mins. of playing. Is this normal for the computer? Or is this something else like a game issue. The comp should be able to play this game at highest everything at a high frame rate. Thanks.

Sounds like the laptop is throttling the GPU/CPU, what are your temps? (Use HWMonitor or something of the like to monitor temps)

Sometimes a drop in fps can be caused from a bad internet connection. Are you playing online? (if not then ignore this comment)

I have the same problem. Strangely, it doesn't happen with the Perseus Mandate standalone expansion, though. Seems like a game-specific issue.

I changed drivers, though, and haven't tried to play again yet.

After playing a bit... it went down to about 20FPS from 60 like always. My GPU is 69-78 C (78 is the MAX)

    EDIT:

Ok quit the game and reloaded it and its back to 60 FPS and the GPU is currently 74 C... ~_^

The 182.05 DOX drivers help a little bit, but the framerate in FEAR still drops off after a little while.

I don't think it's a card problem, I think somehow the more recent Nvidia drivers have broken something in FEAR.

Try putting the battery in. Its a long shot but a few laptops need the battery in to run at full speed (i hope this is not one of them)

The other thing to try is to turn Aero off if you use Vista. It has caused me a few random frame slowdowns playing games before, I now disable it via the game shortcut so it turns off and on when starting and exiting the game.

Must be a driver issue because the temps seem normal. I never game with my battery in, and games like L4D and Crysis play great. Maybe try the original driver that came on the DVD and see if that solves the FEAR issue?

Aero is the funky graphics option that make windows translucent/transparent. I believe it also allows you to do stuff like 3D alt-tabbing where you can scroll through all the windows (try Win+Tab and scroll with your mouse wheel).

yep.. i had the same problem.. i think its a fear related issue... had thought it was temperature related but then i got my friends notebook 'chillpad'( or watever its called.. :) ).. and the exact same thing still happened.
Stock drivers or updated official nvidia drivers nothing fixes it.

Re: F.E.A.R. - The last edit to the last post on this thread suggests disabling unused HIDs in device manager. Probably requires some trial and error.

gave it a try. fear does work out brilliantly after disabling the hid.. unfortunately disabling hid.s that seemed like they were not in use (about 6 outta 10) ended up disabling my oled display!

hmm dunno.. the ones i disabled were either named hid compliant consumer control devices or hid compliant devices. Of those one Hid-CCCD and 3 HID-CD were On M$ eHome infrared transceiver/receiver and the other HID-CCCD was On USB HID.. all these showed "device working properly" in properties but "no driver required/loaded" in the drivers tab/drivers detail.

the ones i left enabled were: ITECIR infrared receiver, M$ ehome Infrared Transceiver and USB Human Interface Device.
