The volume on the speakers on this laptop is disappointingly low, is there any way to make the volume any higher?? I love the computer but the speaker volume is ridiculous!

Did you turn off the startup sound in the BIOS? If so, enable it again and turn the volume to 0 to disable it. That's the workaround for this well-known bug.

Otherwise someone mentioned that the latest realtek drivers increase the volume. You can also go to start->run->rtsndmgr.cpl and boost everything on the graphic EQ, save it as a preset and use that to boost it when you need it.

Which part... I can assure you everything is correct except the part about the new realtek drivers. I haven't tried that bit ;)

So it's 66% guaranteed accurate LOLz (BIOS and EQ settings are legit info)

Is this a bug with the X1? I ask because I have my windows volume level at 44 listening to tunes is still audible, about 8-10 ft in a normal room environment with Winamp volume set to 100. If I crank it up more then my sister would be able to hear my music in the other room with both our doors open.

I wish I had a sound meter to measure it being at volume level 44.

If you're talking about bass sound, then I have to agree with you. But take note that this is a laptop.

I haven't heard of a bug affecting the X1. The most common sound issue is the BIOS sound being disabled which makes the volume level ridiculously low (even inaudible) as the OP said.

If it's just not loud enough, blasting all the freq's on the EQ will make it scream, at the expense of some compression from the tiny speakers overloading. I have to use an EQ preset to be able to figure out guitar riffs and hear it over the lowest setting on my tube amp... lol

    Edit: I'm on a G50V-A2 FYI

I have my Bios set properly but the volume is still low, i can still hear somewhat fine but for being at 100% its barely 'Loud'. How do i access my EQ? I tried start->run->rtsndmgr.cpl but it does nothing. And where can i find the latest Realtek Drivers?

The latest official drivers released 1/16/2009 from ASUS for Vista 64 are here:

The latest non-official driver released by Realtek on 1/9/2009 may boost the volume, but I have not tried it. Somebody else mentioned it in another thread.

ALLurGroceries is definitely correct, I had a similar issue on mine.

If it's just a general complaint about speakers, that's also valid. Almost all the reviews I've read complain about maximum speaker loudness.

No. It won't increase the volume unless you have the POST sound set to NO (it needs to be on YES), since updating your BIOS resets to factory defaults. Otherwise the only way to get more volume out of it is to use an EQ preset like I mentioned earlier.

Well I figured a solution! Go into Start--> Control Panel. Change to classic View. Scroll down to Realtek HD Audio Manager Click on Sound Effects Tab. Next to to the Environment Selection look to the right for a check box that says Loudness Equalization, clicking this doubled the speaker output. Hope this helps Let me know. Good luck guys!

YES!!! This works! (I also did the BIOS sound setup and installed the latest Realtek drivers, but that did not seem to make any difference.)
