    X1 with 64 bit Vista.

Try as I have, I can not get my 40" LCD TV to work with the HDMI cable. Works fine with a VGA cable. I've checked to make sure that vid card and TV are on the same resolution. Went to Nvidia control panel and tried to 'force' it to recognize TV.

I can't figure it out... why will the VGA work and not the HDMI?! Anyone else with an issue?

    Thanks for your help.

BTW... so happy with this ASUS compared to my old Dell e1705. Viva la X1!! Next ste... get the OLCD display working as something useful!

Try pressing Fn+F8 a few times. (Wait ~10 secs inbetween) Try a couple times, and see if the display comes up on the TV. Make sure the TV is on the right input as well. ;)

Sorry, I should have said in my original post that I toggled displays and made sure that the TV was on the correct input as well. Again, it all worked fine with the VGA cable... toggling displays and ensuring that the TV was on the correct input.

But really, I guess I want to know if anyone else has had this problem or am I doing something wrong.

Would it be an issue just hooking up the X1 directly to a 40" LCD with an HDMI? I did the obvious things, but can't figure out why my VGA cable works, but not the HDMI. Could just be the Samsung TV?

Samsung, eh... I had a problem once with my ASUS G1S and a Samsung LCD TV. It wouldn't work over HDMI. Had to use VGA as well. The TV would work over HDMI with other laptops just not my G1S. Not to say it won't work for you at all, maybe you can try different drivers if you're doing it right and it's not working.

Glad to hear that it may not just be my own ignorance... Really weird that VGA works (and instantly) and HDMI does not though. Will take this into my work and see if the HDMI works with the Visio TV there.

    Thanks for the responses!

Isn't this some silly DRM restriction, or failure to comply on one side (TV or laptop, most likely laptop) with DRM protocols? Just a wild guess...

Yes, it could be some sort of HDCP problem. It's a weird one though.

I've got a G50V-A1, and initially had some problems connecting to my 37" LG LCD TV.

First, you need to switch the playback device to your HDMI. It should be in the list (right click on the speaker in your task bar and select "Playback Devices".

I did this and found that the Nvidia HDMI device was listed as "not connected", even though my laptop and TV were connected by the HDMI cable. I switched to a newer Nvida display driver (176.23) from the ASUS support web site, and all started working :)

    Hope this helps............DV
