Upon using my G50VT for a few days, I've noticed that some component in the laptop makes annoying "printer" sounds, and I think it's the CD/DVD drive.

Anyone else notice the same thing?

Is your DVD button getting poked and the tray can't open? If you hold down the button and don't let the drive open is that the sound ur talkin bout

The drive will make noise when a cd is loaded too, the drive probably is what ur hearing

Probably the same noise I'm hearing with the DVD drive on my N50... It happens when I first boot up my notebook, and also after I close the drive. It works fine, I just wonder what the hell that sound is..

It's the motor for the laser moving in its track... it moves and resets to a default position when it receives power for the first time, or when the tray is opened or shut.

Nothing to worry about unless it's going crazy repeating etc, that's why my original post was asking if the button on the drive was being held down and the tray not allowed to open. I have hit it with my mouse pad before with it slipping and it starts freaking out until you let the tray open.

Yep, that's the DVD drive for sure. I guess it's just part of the POST routine since the HDD has the highest boot priority on mine.
