There is always something that keeps us away from the full joy of using our new ASUS G50VT-X2 laptop, along with the rest of the tiny issues I found 2 more form me to make mi live more extreme. A lot of people will say that I am too picky but, when I spent this amount of money I am expecting flawless performance, here it is:

The first one is the minor one, I like my desktop to be clean and without icons on it, so I am using the "hide/show desktop icons option" on the Vista 64bit, and then I am using the "show desktop" on the taskbar function so that I can expand the menu whenever I need to start an application. The problem is that every time I am restarting or powering up all the icons are back on the desktop and I have to do it again to remove them, if any one knows a workaround I will be very great full for the help.

The second one is more frustrating and annoying, as all of the G50VT owners my came with Intel 5100 WiFi card, good, but every time I am restarting, or powering up it is struggling to connect to my network, all though the rest of the 6 PC in the house are fine with it and never had any problems.
I updated to latest drivers, but that did not helped, so I decided to get the 5300, but the problem is here to stay, all the same even with the new one.
I have to the "reset" option in Vista so that will connect, once connected never dopes.
Any help will be highly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Just to bump this guy's question...not trying to jack your thread but if anyone could answer his questions and a basic one from me...is this laptop reliable in general?

I ordered from Newegg.com using a check in the mail and I'm running out of time to cancel if I'm going to so I need to know...is this laptop going to give me a nightmare or a solid and reliable performance I can count on without getting it repaired for a good long time?

    Thanks.

Well, If you get a good one (Only like 2 people on the newegg reviews have had bad ones AFAIK) then you should be set. The build quality on the laptop is impressive and it should last you quite a while.

As a workaround to the desktop icons thing, you could cut and paste all your wanted icons to a folder somewhere on the hard drive, then right click on the taskbar and go to Toolbars > New Toolbar... and select the folder you pasted the icons to. It'd be annoying to constantly update (maybe place a shortcut to it in the "Send To..." prompt so you could right click on a shortcut and send it to the toolbar folder?) but it'd work.

The network thing is weird--I've had no problems reconnecting to my wireless g network. Perhaps play with the encryption on the router?

That workaround is not really a workaround, the strange thing is that method to hide the icons always worked for me in XP and Vista Ultimate 32bit.
I think that it is probably due to Power4Gear settings, when changing the schemes to Quiet Office from High Performance the icons are vanishing and appearing again, just cant find where I can change that.

I have a fresh install of Vista x64 ultimate on my X2, When I get home from work I'll do the hide icons option and reboot and see if I experience the same thing. The only software I have installed on my laptop from Asus is the bluetooth software and the touchpad software, and all drivers. No P4G or anything.

In the P4G power settings, you can change whether or not you want the icons to hide when you enter Quiet Office mode. Maybe if you just set it to "off" it wouldn't bother with anything?

Where did you see the settings for the icons in Quiet Office?
