Maybe somebody can give me some words of advice on the following problem:

I bought the G50VT-X5 from Best Buy last Saturday, about 5 days ago.
For the first two days I had no problems. Then I noticed that the included Power2Go CD/DVD burning programs started to crash. Not a biggie, I wanted to use Nero anyway. I uninstalled Power2Go and the MS Office 2007 60-day trial and installed Topo 8.0 (mapping software)
A day later I got my first BSOD and then it happened a couple of times after that. It seems to happen a lot when I bring the laptop out of hibernation. I restored the system to a restore point on Sunday when the system was still stable, but after I did that the BSOD appeared again.
So, is this a lemon and should I bring it back to BB? Or should I use the F9 system restore and see what happens? Should I run chkdsk and see if the hard drive is the problem?
Should I try and upgrade the BIOS?
I just don't want to waste a lot of time trying to get this thing to run properly. Any ideas/suggestions would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Richard

You probably have a lemon. You are still within the exchange date (14 days), so I would swap it out rather than going through all the hassle.

The vast majority of times BSOD's are Software related primarily Drivers or outdated OS files. If BB will take it back it would save you hassle fixing it yourself if not?(Which they might not and claim it is a software issue)

    1. Update ALL drivers and i do mean EVERYTHING from your external mouse to video driver. Any incompatabilities or system resource sharing conflicts will usually resolve themselves if all the drivers are updated.

    2. Update ALL system software. Update Windows FULLY, Your office programs FULLY (basically any program you use on a normal basis fully)

    3. If 1-2 Do not solve your problems Start testing the most guilty culprit of BSOD's hardware wise your RAM. Download a Ram checker and let it run through all the extended tests at least 4-5 times and see if any errors come up. If it DOES find an error then you need to remove one of your RAM sticks (Or a pair if it's 4 sticks) at a time and re run the tests to see if the error re appears (And if it does not you have found your bad pair, stick) and thus found your problem.

4.Where it is a new machine it is possible other problems in the hardware might cause an issue (though unlikely most all BSOD's can be traced to Drivers,Software,Ram in that order) I would then try to Stress test your CPU and GPU to see if you can re create the BSOD 3dmark 2006 tests looped and PCMARK 2005 tests looped to see if the issue occurs.

Anytime i have run into BSOD's on my own (Or a former customers machine) Usually these steps will Solve/Find your issue. This is assuming of course BB will not just take it back and therefor just save you the time =)

    Best of uck.

We are talking about windows here BSOD's are kinda normal. I had a couple not related to something i was purposely doing when i first got it but nothing since.

Listen to PSXAGE if u dont feel like exchanging it. Ram test and if thats clear (microsoft has a bootable iso to help rule out windows) then do a stress test on the cpu and motherboard.

    Thanks for all the advice!
I actually ran chdsk on it on Wednesday and it discovered some errors on the drive. Thursday morning everything seemed fine and I was hoping that the problem had been solved. But Thursday night the BSOD popped up again and I decided to return it back to Best Buy. I exchanged it for a new one without any problems.
I will start updating all the drivers etc. for it and see how it goes from there.
    Thanks,

    Richard

I personally just don't think this is true anymore. I've run either Vista x64 or Win7 x64 on my G50V and haven't had a single BSOD on the computer. Ever. Since purchase nearly a year ago. Come to think of it, I don't remember one on my G1S either.

Good call I think on the return--I hope the new one works out well for you. It's a great computer :)
