Anyone else notice a MUCH louder then normal DVD drive on the G50VT-X5 laptop? It's so loud and so extremely vibrating that I may buy an external drive if this is normal.

Not really, only thing i noticed is if the laptop isnt on a flat surface or properly supported the vibration can worsen. Have you tried different discs? I get different results from different discs in any optical drive. The off balance of the disc will cause vibration and noise.
I have one game out of 9 that makes my PS3 vibrate bad. -
Only tried Gears of war so far as alot of my games are digital downloads (legal downloads)

Might get around to other discs, and if that disc doesn't sound all that bad in a desktop drive then find another laptop drive to compare it with. Laptop drives can be subject to more noise and vibration then desktop ones.
But yeah I have a couple of discs that are louder then others, especially at high speeds. In general it doesn't seem louder then other laptops to me. -
I'm comparing it to my F series and Dell 1520 and compared to those it's....beyond the realm of loud (same disc works quiet on those laptops) the drive WORKS fine it's just very very loud compared to my Dell 1520 and ASUS F3JP

Agree. It is quite noisy.

I have an X1. If I press on the drive cover plate I can usually take out most of the rattling that I get. When I first got the laptop it didn't do much more than quietly vibrate... oh well

Yeah, on start up and the insertion of a disk, mines sounds like a really loud fart or a really angry/hungry stomach. Its fairly annoying!
-
mine is very quiet with either cd or dvd, playing or burning.

I remember my G50V to be quite loud occasionally, but not to the point where I'm worried.

Drive is empty btw.
