Hi all, I'm new here, and many of you seem knowledgeable in laptops. I recently bought a G50VT-X5 with windows 7 Ultimate installed (64 bit), and I have some problems with it.

When I try to run older games such as Thief or Starcraft, it would either spaz out in resolutions and eventually crash, or freeze after loading a game. I tried running compatability mode, but it doesn't work.

What's a good cooling pad/docking station for this model? I plan on using this as my replacement desktop.

Any programs you guys recommend using for this computer to help with performance/battery life?

The laptop's hard drive seems to have some weird chirping sounds constantly, despite hard drive health being displayed as 100% healthy.

Any aid on these matters is greatly appreciated! :)

Try a different graphics driver and see if that solves the instability/crashes.

There's a few threads/guides available to help improve performance. Take a look at the ones listed below:
Optimization Guide for the Asus G51
    - for overclocking/undervolting CPU
Asus bloatware guide - uninstall unnecessary software preinstalled on your system
Win 7 optimization - Les's win7 optimization guide. Very useful info here to help reduce boot time and over all win7 performance.
