I turned on my laptop this morning only to find out that the wireless wasn't working. I turned it off normally last night and the wireless-enable switch is in the ON position. Regardless of which direction I turn the switch in (left- off, right - on), the same popup comes up: Wireless Lan OFF

any ideas on how to fix this? did the wireless card go bad?

It's most likely a software related issue. Try reinstalling your wifi driver from your drivers disk.

The driver from the website should work too. Make sure you uninstall your current driver, restart your laptop, and then install the new driver.

that didn't work so i just started using a usb wireless adapter for a few weeks but unfortunately i have a new symptom..

my laptop won't boot up at all and even the quick-touch led buttons aren't lighting up. i tried reading up on it and assumed it was the battery but it wasn't :\

when i plug the ac adapter into the wall the green light turns on indicating it works but as soon as i plug it into the back my asus, the green light turns off.

    any ideas?

Try taking you Battery out and then plug it in, try to boot up. If it doesn't work, try getting a universal power suply first. Souds like your power suply went bad and the battery is totaly out.

Unfortunately I've tried everything as far as the power is concerned from trying a different battery (one that definitely worked as it came from a friend's laptop) to buying a universal power supply from radioshack that I was luckily capable of returning after I was unsuccessful.

I couldn't afford to spend any more time or money on this machine without a guarantee that it would last me for a long time so I've already replaced it with a macbook. I'm going to sell this Asus (without the battery, charger, and hard drive) for extremely cheap considering I don't know what the problem is but I'm sure most of the parts can still be salvaged and used.
