I heard the LCD on the G50VT is pretty bad. Poor contrast low resolution, etc. That I can live with, but for some reason I cant get a good viewing angle. No matter what I do, I can't get the corners to show up without them being distorted (you know, the way lcds are when you view from an angle).

In movies and games anything dark in color, especially around the edge, is almost invisible. And no matter what I try I can't fix it. I've tried every view angle possible, and messed with a plethora of nvidia settings.

The only thing that remedies the situation is stand back and look from a distance, then I can see everything lol. The backlight also bleeds VERY much. Like, there's only a line about an inch thick across the middle that isn't bleeding white. There's also a slight, jagged, red outline around black text. None of these problems exist on an external monitor.

I'm wondering if this is just how bad the g50 is, or if it sounds like it could be a defective or particularity bad model screen. I'm under warranty for 90 days and considering calling it in...It really ruins gaming and movies. Just want to know what you guys think. Again, there is no "sweet spot", always some color distortion no matter what.

    No, that would be AUO.

I had a Asus A8JP back in the day with an AUO... wow. A laptop's screen IS make or break. AUOs are true pieces of S.

I think you're the only guy I know with an Asus that has a HannStar. Not that HannStar is exactly a quality display company but anything is better than AUO.

All G60Vxs must be Hannstars... I can't imagine Asus using a different supplier for a 1366x768 (or whatever resolution it is lol) 16" LCD.

Actually, once I calibrated the LCD, the screen is very decent. Nowhere near my 24" Gateway Desktop LCD (which isn't even the top of the line, as it still a TN display), it doesn't show full color gamut and displays cool out of the box (too much blue), but it's very useable viewing angles. I am super picky with these things as well. Not as impressed as I thought LED displays should be, but still better than my previous experiences (though not as good as the gorgeous Macbook Pro displays - if Apple did anything right, is they don't use crappy displays).
