    Hey folks.
My G50VT-X6 just came in from newegg today. It's a fantastic machine, but I'm having a problem with using the direct console to overclock the CPU. When I goto the direct console, click on performance, check either 'turbo' or 'turbo extreme', nothing happens to my clock speed (I have a cpu speed monitor on my sidebar). If I check either overclock option on the menu and wait for approx. 10 seconds, it will reset itself to normal mode. Regardless of how I try to change performance mode, it always ends up resetting itself back to normal. I haven't removed any of the ATK hotkey drivers or asus utilities. Has anyone encountered any similar problems? Any ideas how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance,

    trout

Hi, and welcome to the boards.

In your power option in control panel, make sure you select the Asus power4gear plan. You can also try an reinstall the direct console software and see if that solves the issue.

Ah, thanks for the speedy reply guys. So I installed power4gear extreme, rebooted, and it's not resetting anymore - hooray. Still though, if I'm in either OC'ed mode, I see no change in the frequency on the sidebar gadget or under the control panel -> system (shows p8700 @ 2.53 GHz 2.53 GHz). Perhaps I'm not supposed to see any change?

    No problem.
Keep in mind that because of speed-step, your CPU will run at a lower clocked frequency when at idle. As soon as you open a program or run CPU intensive tasks, your processor will run at the OC'ed speed.

hey, have you tried using other program that monitors computer speeds such as CPU-Z. I have the g50vt-x6 too and i dont think overclocks show up in the system information in the control panel.
