Mine is freezing while in game, but I think it's occurring more than once an hour.

It can be many things... We'd need more info to draw any conclusions. Perhaps one generic suggestion is to watch your processes list and see if some process doesn't eat too much CPU.

Do you have the LED's on the LCD blinking? If so try to turn them to solid or off... (I know you cant turn them all off but the sides you can.) I just remember some people saying the lights did it a little. They are hooked in via USB so its possible.

I have the G50V and my system sometimes "freezes" (hesitates) when it needs to access the second hard drive which has powered down due to power settings. The freeze is due to the time the drive takes to power back up. I believe the default power management turns off the hard drive after 1 hour of inactivity.

I dont think it can just turn off one hard drive... the way power management works I think its either turn hard drives off or no, it does not get to pick which.

Mine is in raid 0 though so they cant ever turn off, haha

I doubt this will help but also load the newer Direct Console....

    ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps/DirectConsole/DirectConsole2_VT32_64_081105.zip

After that I would open asus ticket... They probably wont help as they never do but maybe if they see more people opening tickets they will respect the customers better and do something.

Thats how I feel about a few of my issues... And of course Asus is no help...

Companies want our money but when its time to help they dont want to own up to issues.... While I agree they do try at times other times they look for a reason to deny to help, like my case, they said because I reinstalled the notebook with vista x64 ultimate they wont help me.. But they admit the home prem x64 is the same OS with less features...

Anyway you can try bios 208 I posted in another thread... It could make things worse or better, but word on the street is 209 will be out soon and it solves some issues with CPU load, maybe that will fix it?... :)

Mortinator, just out of curiosity, are you still having this problem? Sounds a lot similar to mine.

By default, HDD Free Fall Protection is enabled in the BIOS, which parks the heads of the HD after a certain amount of time. Try disabling that and SMART too on each drive in the bios if you want. I noticed a clacking sound coming from my drives syncing up with some jitters and that was it... took care of it for me.

Be aware that disabling SMART will mean that you will not be warned in advance in the (unlikely) event of impending HDD failure.

Here's the instructions I gave in another thread...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4204200&postcount=235

And yes good point if you disable SMART if you have physical errors on your disk you will not be alerted to them. It's a tradeoff. You don't have to disable smart, you can just disable free fall protection. I did both and haven't had problems, caveat emptor.

Thanks for the information, that is probably the source of the little pause after my system has been idle for a number of minutes. It doesn't bother me and the extra protection it provides for my data is worth leaving the option enabled for me. Everyone's situation is different. I use my computer for work (and play).

Yeah, it makes like a 'chirp' and then a 'clack' sound ... it's not the full spindown that power management will do if they are set to turn off in windows.
