Received G50Vt-A1 two weeks ago. Yesterday, after starting up it hung on a black screen w/ flashing cursor after Republic of Gamers splash screen. Numerous restarts resulted in same problem. Could access bios but it looked fine and I hadn't made any changes in there. After many attempt to get into windows failed I tried the recovery disks. That worked but now one of the hard drives does not show up in windows but it is seen in bios. Also, I get two Republic of Gamers splash screen on boot up now like it is trying to access the first drive but fails and then moves on the the second hard drive. Any thoughts?

Update for anyone else with this problem. I finally got through to Asus support and they actually solved my problem rather quickly. He had me remove the AC plug and battery and then hold down the reset button on the bottom of the laptop for 30 seconds. The reset button is a very, very small hole below the lamp warning sticker on the bottom of the laptop. You'll need a paper clip to access it. After holding it down for 30 seconds he had me replace the battery and then boot up the system. Once back into windows, a new device was detected and the driver was installed and then the system rebooted. Once I was back into windows the missing hard drive was back, and all of the data on it was still there. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I have the same problem like you with my G50VT-X1 when I try to replace the original Vista 64bit with the 32bit one due to software uncompatible issue.
Thanks for the info, thanks you. Im at the company right now, so I will try it when I come home.
    Thanks again.

Could you please take a picture of "very very small hole reset button". Im afraid I cant online tonight to make another question if this problem can not be solved because I have only 1 computer machine at home.
    Thank you very much.

This happened to me yesterday, though I didn't reset the bios through the button (didn't know it existed), I just removed the battery and held down the power button for a few seconds, powered it back on and everything was fine again :)

Good to know there's a hard reset button though.

    thanks

Oh my god! Using a computer that fully supported a 64 bit OS (I mean that the system has 64 bit CPU and > 3GB ram) on a 32 bit OS is not a best choice . I have tried it, and now I put it back to the original Vista 64 :( The 32 bit OS actually is slower than the 64 bit OS in my G50 laptop.
Now my laptop is running in a dualboot configuration with the XP 32 and the original Vista 64 bit came with the DVD recovery.

Thanks a lot for your kindness raj119!

p/s: Im an Asian, so sorry for my bad Eng skill.

What did you do? My laptop seems deader then dead after trying and failing to install linux. I have the exact same flashing cursor issue, and it doesn't seem to matter if I use the CD rom as the boot device with the recovery DVD or not, it just sits there.

Any help would be more greatly appreciated than words can say.
