I just got an Asus G50Vt-A1 with a Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111(C)P Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) and it completely refuses to connect to my network at 1000mbps it will only do 100mbps and if I connect a cat6 cable to it the thing refuses to work what so ever. I have to use a cat5e on it to have it work and that at 100mbps. I know all my cables work just fine because I can test them on my main computer. I am pulling my hair out and have NO clue what to do! I have tried messing with the connection speeds in the properties of the device and even when i set it to 1gbps full duplex it still connects at 100mps and yes I have a gigabit network! What the heck is going on???

EDIT: I tried rolling back the drivers as windows update updated them, but nope....

I had this problem last night. All I did was power cycle my switch and it came back as gigabit. I dont know why we have to do this as it should pick it right up but thats what I did.

You will want to reset all your network equipment (power on and off). In my set up I have my router hooked up to an 8 port gigabit switch. All I had to do was plug the power to my switch for 20 seconds and plug back in. When I plugged it back in, it instantly picked up as gigabit.

Just do this to what every gigabit switch you have, either your router or a switch and it should work.

Thanks for the tip I'll try it out in a bit here. What I did to fix the problem is use a pre made cable instead of the cables I have made. I made all the cables I ever use and I make my friends cables too and for some reason this laptop just says no to them. I went over to a friends house and hooked into his gigabit just fine with his premade cable then came home and tried one and alas I have gigabit! It is annoying as hell as the only premade on I have came with my cable modem and it is like a foot and a half long so I'll cycle my power when I need a bigger cord!
