Hi! I've just gotten this ASUS laptop as a gift recently and I am definitely enjoying it. It's the first (or only, even) "functioning" computer that I've had in years. For the past month I've been trying to teach myself, with minor previous computer usage outside of the use of the internet and school work, the basics and advanced techniques about maintaining computers.
All in all, I want to game on this laptop. It's what I've wanted for a long time and now that I have it, it's a bit overwhelming to come to realizing how to get this rig to full potential. I've been reading threads on the matter of this laptop and it's performance, trying to figure out all of the tech-babble (which I am more than willing to learn.) I don't normally post on forums as I'm the kind of newb that will use a search engine, but I'm lost and it's taking too much time to figure out- so let's get to the point.
I would like to overclock my computer (nVidia 9800M GS) to what an experienced G50Vt-X5 user would call a safe and effective zone. BUT, keep in mind that this laptop basically replaced my home desktop. I now use my 46" LCD TV as an external display and would like to use a 1920 x 1200 resolution for gaming rather than gaming on-the-go. I ran the newly released Resident Evil 5 benchmark with average, but playable results WITHOUT using my external LCD TV. I'd like to be able to play current-gen games without sacraficing too much performance because of the pixel usage that comes with 1920 x 1200 display.
Note: I am aware of the Direct Console overclocking, but I want to know if I could (safely) go further.
I need step by step information so I don't get too lost, but I'll bare with you. Thanks!

This is not a direct answer to your question, but:
Have you seen the G50 Owner's Lounge? It holds a lot of information that you may find useful. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=279387 -
