My dvd player on my G50v is not reading any cds or dvds. I can hear it start spinning but its not reading anything does anyone know what might be wrong with it?
Also my direct console is not working and all the touchpad buttons in front of the keyboard the only one that works is the one that disables and enables the mouse touchpad. I tried reinstalling the newer version of direct console but it still wont open.

Does the player boot from bootable CDs and DVDs? (e.g., WinXP install disks or Vista install disks). Make sure it's the first boot device when you try!

If it does boot, then the problem may be with your OS (Windows). If it doesn't, it's most likely bad hardware and you need to RMA. Sometimes ASUS agree with just swapping the ODD without sending in the entire machine.

I don't know about the buttons, but make sure you have installed all the ATK drivers and utilities.

Also, please don't double post. I have removed your thread in the subsection Reviews and Owner's Lounges.

If the Windows is fresh and reinstalling doesn't take too much time, yes, do it.

Also verify if the problem does not appear again once you install applications. Especially iTunes has been known to cause such problems, so be especially careful with Apple software.
