G50vt Express gate problem?

So I got my replacement G50vt from Asus. Is newer serial number, and it seems the keyboard lag is not fixed but I give up on that for now.

Anyway its a brand new notebook and I format it because I setup raid 0.

Get everything working good, load express gate on it. Than I turn it off to start Express Gate.

Express gate starts and goes to the screen that I pick the application at, but when I pick on it switches screens to show the icon for the application I selected and than thats it, just sits on that screen with my HDD light blinking.

I have left it at this screen for 30 min and nothing.

It worked on my old notebook I sent back. I have the newest ExpressGate that is for Raid.

Any ideas? I know it see's the hard drive fine because it loads express gate, just hangs when I click on an app.

What version of expressgate do you have? The latest is v1.0.2.0

 

That is the one I have... Its the only one that works with Raid..

I have another notebook same model in Raid 1 and it works... I am sure mine did before I sent it in... I did not use it much because it never worked but they came out with this new ver a few days before I sent mine in.

I would like to be able to use it.

Its just odd... ExpressGate does start, just once I pick an app, it shows the apps icon and just sits their animated. HDD goes nuts but nothing else ever happens... Than to get out I have to hold power btn down.

I would assume this is software issue, but I did repair on EG and also did uninstall and re-install. Same results... I wish it would give me an error or do logging or something...

 

where do you go to check which express gate version you have and where to download the latest version at? thanks for the help in advance.

also I set my computer in raid 0 and my express gate doesnt work, it just goes to the screen that shows the rainbow colored ASUS screen then the comp reboots and starts normal.

so this new version will allow express gate in raid 0?

 

Yes it does. go to Asus web pgae under support and search expressgate and it will pop up. I got mine on Raid-0 and it works.

 

Search for ExpressGate on the Asus download, you will find the latest ver.

So anyone got any other ideas on mine? Its crazy that it will load and just not load an app once I select one... The icon is animated once I click it and it never locks up, and the HDD light just keeps going but nothing... Cant get out of it neither at this point except to power down... You dont get a mouse during this section right after you click the icon.

 

well I just installed and mine works fine. I did a system recovery with the recovery DVDs a few days ago and at the same time I set the HDD in Raid 0. So I guess as a last resort do a system recovery if nothing works for you.

 

I use Vista Ult so recovery dvd is useless to me, but also dont use any of the items on the driver disk because they are all old/bugged...

Just hate to reload an entire OS that works fine beause some mini one is screwed up... Its crazy. Its like it is software because the main part does load up, just hangs than. The Express Gate does not need the main OS for anything neither... It just makes 2 folders on the C drive and a few temp files...

Any apps on the host OS should not matter so reloading shouldnt matter, should be as simple as reinstall ExpressGate...

It could be one of the other asus programs. After I reinstalled the OS on mine I couldn't get Direct Console to overclock and it was due to not having Power4Gear installed.

 

I know on the G50V express gate will not work in raid 0, it even says it in the manual.

Well to be more specific the manual just says "raid" but its only raid 0 that will not work. Raid 1 just mirrors the drive so the data can still be read from one drive via EG and so it will work. EG does not use the RAID ARRAY and thus can not work on a stripped drive that only has half the data.

the VT is the same computer with the gpu upgrade as far as I know so I assume this applies to you also.

 

The manual has not been updated. Raid 0 is in fact now supported in the latest release... That was one of the main reasons for the release because of the large number of people complaining about it and how simple it was to fix. They simply didnt put a driver it needed.

But it will work on 0 and does load on mine, just hangs when I try to launch a program...

I guess I am down to a few more options... Reflash the bios from 209 to 209 again and format.

One thing was odd is when I got my replacement NB, I booted it, flashed bios and than rebooted, set it up as raid 0 and wanted to install my vista... Problem is would not boot from CD at all... Even though the flash cleared the CMOS... I had to pick restore user defualts to make the CD room bootable... It was on the list and both HDD showed fine but it would not boot from the CD... So my worry is maybe something didnt flash all the way correct. My old one I returned I didnt have to do anything after flashing but resetup the bios settings. Didnt need to load defaults as the flash did...

But anyway, just get the new ExpressGate. It works with all Raids now.. Its also twice the size as the old ones.

But I shouldnt have to format for this is what sucks... Express gate does not or should not care about any other programs I have on the PC.. It does not rely on anything but the bios and its files on the root drive it makes in hidden folders..

 

Is there an alternate source for downloading the new version? Asus' server is uber slow and I've had the download fail near the end 3 times!

 

Yeah, downloading Expressgate right now equals epic fail. The download has died on me 6-7 times so far.

 

Ditto, no matter what region you select it hits you with the 12kb/s broken file .tw link.

 

Guys, you can try ask Ken (from gentechpc) nicely if he could upload the 209 BIOS for you all
