I just bought a new 24" monitor for college and hooked it up to my laptop and my Xbox 360 (VGA).

Now I have an HDMI cable running from my laptop to the monitor. When connected with the following resolutions 1680x1050 on the laptop display and 1920x1080 on the monitor the monitor has a strange issue with "text jumping around" and everything being very blurry.

Strange I thought this was a monitor issue so I tried my DVI to HDMI cable. Same problem.

Then I thought maybe it has to be my HDMI output? No it works correctly with my 32" TV (1336x768 running at 1280x720).

I figure it has to be the drivers for the video card that are causing this problem, but I'm already updated to the newest drivers for my G50vt (9800m GS).

    Whats the problem here?

I did just find a work around..... If you switch the resolution from 1080p back to 720p it looks fine and then allows you to go back to 1920x1080 and the screen and text looks flawless.

If you haven't already, check the refresh rate on the external monitor.

The last few official laptop driver releases from Nvidia have had a tendency to run my external display randomly at 1080i for some reason.

It's most likely a driver issue as you've suggested. Try a slightly older driver from laptopvideo2go. Newest drivers don't necessarily mean they work the best.
