Hi, yesterday i was debugging an application that uses the webcam when i saw between the plastic and the cam glass small dots of light, i've never seen them, then a began to open and close my application, something about 10 times, and the strange light was turning on/off together with the webcam.

sorry for the pic, my cellphone cam sucks...

Now i want to know more about were exactly is the LED, and maybe, drill a hole thru the glass, to do this i need to disassemble the Screen panel, but i've found no Disassembling manual for g50m where i can find one?

    thanks.

I can notice a webcam led on my G50v too. A yellow one, located under the right side of the cam mount, whitch lights up when the cam is on.

Very nice find Calan, now I have to resist taking my screen apart ^^

Looks like the webcam module has an activity light , but Asus did not put a hole for the light to shine thought.

The light is just shinning thought a crack in the case.

On G50v, you have to look very carefully through the webcam hole (yes, put your eye directly onto the webcam ^^), better is to swith ambiant lights off... I had to look very carefully to see it.

It depends on the model number. I don’t know them off the top but only some of the new models have a better camera.

To be honest I never use mine but because it’s their I naturally want the best! lol

Well, i did it, i removed the front plate of the monitor, using this guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=318551 ,thanks David for the great guide.

Then i carved a small hole in the plastic from inside until it reaches the transparent protection, it's not the best concept of beauty, but it serves me pretty good.

the LED is located ~13,5mm from cam lens.

Did i recommend this? No. Especially for those who might someday need RMA. I did this because of my spyware/trojan/virus/worm... Paranoya and because of the high price and risk of sending my notebook back to EUA (it was a gift). Some people are also reporting that they doesn't have (or at least can't see) a LED, in some cases you risk your computer for nothing.
