I am thinking of purchasing this machine. Just had a few questions about it.

It supports ddr2 memory, should I look for a machine with ddr3 memory or is there not a big difference between the two?

If i get a monitor can I hook it up to this laptop and have the laptop screen and the external monitor working at the same time. Say for example could i have word running on one monitor and internet explorer on the other?

Also is there a big difference between the 9800 gs and 9800 gts?

Also would people who have this laptop recommend it? I've read something about a keyboard lag issue and am curious to know if it is bad and effects all machines or only some?

    Thanks in advance.

There's really no noticeable difference between DDR2 and DDR3 ram; the difference will only show in benchmarks.

Yup, having both an external monitor and your laptop screen on at the same time is do-able. All you have to do is select that option in your nvidia control panel.

The 9800M GTS is more powerful than the 9800M GS, but the difference isn't huge.

The keyboard lag issue affects some people and some of those whom are affected have fixed it with bios and driver updates and/or disabling the touchpad in the bios (touchpad will still work in windows).

I have the g50vt-a2 and I am very happy with it. I am enjoying and knock on wood without a glitch. I set it up with raid 0 and have not looked back. I myself have not expirience the keyboard lag that people report. I play lots l4d and warhammer. This is the best 15 inch notebook for the price in my opinion.

I have the G50vt-A1 and all I can say is I never thought I would enjoy a laptop so much. I do have a small problem typing where sometimes the letters don't show up that I think I pressed, but its not a lag problem. It is probably jst because I suck at typing or am not pressing hard enough.

    LOVE THIS MACHINE

May i ask what the screen resolution for this laptop is? Does it depend on what country it is bought in? I have read that some laptops have a slightly different spec depending on the country.

    Thanks

The resolution doesn't change, only the X1 models have a lower resolution of 1366x768, the rest are 1680x1050. The stuff that changes depending on country are whether a TV tuner or modem is installed. Not aware of any other regional differences (correct me if I'm wrong)

Actually the G50V has the 9700M GTS, but it's not a big deal. <--I got n00b3d out by David he was right (see below)

I don't know why they list the resolution as 1200x800, probably because they got it wrong. LOL. There are no G50 models with any resy besides the ones I listed:

I don't think Asus has ever made a G50 series notebook with a 1200x800 resolution screen (at least in North America). It's either 1680x1050 or 1366x768. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if Asus offer other screen resolution options for other countries.

OK cool. So the GPU on a G50V will be higher than 1200x800 and will be be a 9700m gts? Thanks for answering all my questions. I have a feeling it maybe different depending on country, im in the UK so im not sure if it will differ from the states.

Both play and BT shop have the same spec listed, the screen resolution is 1200x800 and the gpu is a 9700 gs. Both stores couldn't have got it wrong could they?

I would call each store and ask. I do know that Asus has in the past, released inaccurate specs to their resellers.
