so i was wondering about a new notebook to get that would give me similar performance (of course not the same, just pretty good) to my desktop and i been looking at the dell m1530, asus g50vt- x1 (i like the black and silver scheme) and the gateway p-7811 fx. m1530 is off the list now cuz its too old.

so my question is, the only thing holding me back from buying the g50vt-x1 is the screen, so will i be able to take out the old screen and fit any screen that matches with the size, such as a 15.6" 1680 x 1050 screen?

this is a major concern that mite make my decision to buy another laptop.

if u can, can u suggest any screens that will be compatible with it? im not sure how much a screen costs but i hope it isnt anything more than 500 USD!!

BTW - i have considered the newegg g50vt- x2 but i dont want it simply becuz of the bad color scheme (the orange is so ugly and pisses me off).

The problem is that the X1 uses a 15.6" display, which are a new size standard and so rare. I have only seen them in this X1 model and a Dell Vostro notebook only at the 1366x768 resolution.

I think you would be better off buying the other G50 models with the orange/black color scheme and 15.4" displays and repainting it, putting on stickers, etc. I also like the color scheme of the X1 model better.

Go with the G50Vt-X1. Not only is it cheaper than the X2,A1,etc, but like you said the colour scheme is even better looking. Games will run much better on that resolution anyhow and in the near future when the 15.6" screens are more common you can look for a higher resolution LCD to replace with the hunderds that you saved on this deal. :)

Your gonna void any warranty with the screen replacement.

You can get the P-7811 FX (1920x1200) at Tiger refurbed for about $700 and the rumor is there gonna get some more in by Dec. 26 and offer extended warranty in the US. I might jump on that deal, heck I tried to jump on it and it was sold out...for $700!

    Hi everyone,

Do you have a link to the Gateway refurb deal on Tiger ? I tried to look for it and it is not listed on their site !

I would get it in a heartbeat if it was $700 !!!

For now I am considering the Asus G50VT-X1 from BB, for a Grand it is not a bad deal, but Gateway would blow it out of the water !!!
