To all G50vt owners running 64-bit Windows 7, and anyone else who can help:

I have installed Windows 7 x64 and it works pretty well, however I can't seem to get all my drivers working correctly. I've installed everything driver-ish from the CD that I could find, however: The touchbar at the top isn't working, the OSD isn't going, the only Fn buttons that seem to work are Sleep and the WLAN toggle.

Where can I get drivers to get everything else working?

    Thanks

I haven't installed any drivers yet, and my brightness is working. I am still looking for drivers that work for the other functions, ill let you know.

Yeah I forgot to mention brightness, that works fine. But I still have no idea about anything else. A few other G50vt owners have said they got Windows 7 working perfectly, and I don't quite know where they get everything from.

Also, if anyone knows how to get the SB X-Fi going correctly (the console launches but doesn't have any modules like the crystallizer or 3d effect available) that'd be great.

Same, I think a good list of drivers to install when going to Windows 7 would be an exceptional resource to this community.

I also am trying Windows 7. The mouse touch button doesn't work but the others do. My biggest issue is power management. Everyone's been toting how 7 is supposed to improve battery life but my laptop seems to run a half-hour shorter over vista 64.

Go to the Asus site and search for the latest drivers for each application. There are some newer ones there than for your particular model. I have everything working on my G50V-A2

For power management you need to install the ATK drivers; for hotbutton functionality, ATK Hotkey and (for the graphics) ATK OSD2. If these things work or have equivalents in Windows 7, you should be fine.

I suspect a lack/incompatibility of the above-mentioned drivers is causing the issues mentioned on this thread (hotbuttons not working, battery life dropping).

Maybe you need to wait for the first laptops with Windows 7 support to be released by ASUS. :)

Or else, start researching alternatives / "hacking" the utils so they work in W7. These are the adventures of early adoption. :)

I'm using a g50vt-a2 and the OLED + most of the fn buttons are broken. I've tried installing the ATK drivers, will try to see if newer ones are out.

Any help is appreciated - after all, those of us who run the beta will end up making the final product better! (...hopefully...)

    EDIT:
By using the Asus driver CD and installing Direct Console, I now have the OLED working, displaying battery etc. :)
More updates as they come. Btw, to use the CD, you need to manually navigate to the folder on the CD since autorun won't work on non-vista OS.

I performed an upgrade installation of Windows 7 x64 -- OSD is working fine. OLED is functional. Most of my hotbuttons seem to work..but then I rarely use them anyway, ironically enough.

So I'd suggest giving an upgrade installation a try for those having issues. Get your apps in place and working..then upgrade! :)

Hold up-- did you install new drivers for the hotkeys or did they just carry over when you upgraded?
There is no way I'm upgrading Vista to a beta OS with an expiration date.

You need ATK Hotkey for the hotkeys to work; I seem to remember though a report that said that program does not work in W7.

(in fact that report is on page1 of this very thread) :)

I also noticed I have one device that isn't recognized by Windows 7 in the Device Manager. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Maybe your ir. I used device manager to update driver, just point it toward your drivers folder, (wherever you store your drivers for vista), and it seems that was the one it loaded

I'll check drivers (again) sometime, perhaps I missed one. If it's the IR I'm not terribly concerned about it all though.

Some progress on the touchbar and Fn buttons:
I navigated through to Vista's Asus Hotkeys folder and basically randomly clicked a bunch of .exe's and suddenly everything except the touchpad disabling function works! Not sure what I clicked, but hey, it worked. Now I just need to make a bunch of shortcuts and throw them into the startup folder in Win7... :D

    ^So volume control works too?

Failing that, does anyone know of a program that lets you customise your own hotkeys? Main things I want is volume up/down (the current fn ones are clumsy even if they worked because the two buttons are so far apart). Shortcuts to minimise/maximise windows would me nice too.

Yeah, OSD and everything. I just couldnt correctly disable/enable the touchpad (it says it disables and the LED goes out but it remains functional).

As for minimizing, I use the following in win7:
    [Win]+[D]: show/hide the desktop
[Win]+[Home]: Minimize/restore all other windows (basically a hotkey for Aero Shake)
    [Win]+[Down]: Minimize/restore the current window
    [Win]+[Up]: Maximize/window the current window
    [Win]+
    or [Win]+
: Snap/unsnap the current window to a side

Win7 has really nice window management...

Just installed windows 7 on my G50vt-x5; build 7057, and all the devices in device manager installed but the dvd drive. Asus' site doesnt have a driver either. Does anyone know what model dvd drive it is or a driver that works for it? Thanks in advance.

okay guys Working hot keys on Windows 7
    1. just download an install ATK_Hotkey win vista 32 or 64 bit
    2. go to the directory you instaled the Utility c:\program files (86x)\asus\ATK Hotkey and find the HControl.exe
    3. now you need to put the file to run on start up. the easy way isto put a shortcut in your start up folder (C:\Users\****\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup )

The ATK drivers from the ASUS N71VG fixed my function keys, LCD on/off, wireless on/off, volume, etc. The little LCD that says republic of gamers just says that and never changes but if that's all I'm missing I'm fine.

This is a fresh install with the Win 7 Pro 64bit which is what will be released on the 22nd and works perfectly. All business apps and games function and the touch pad works now that I installed the Synaptics driver manually.

    Cheers,

I'm having a definite driver problem.

My games or any 3d application starts to lag after a few minutes of play and then return to normal within a few minutes... this isn't a performance problem.

I've tried everything, did anyone have this problem.

Have you checked your temps? You might be running in to a throttling issue from things downclocking themselves.
