Another question about my new G50vt I'm afraid!

Keep in mind that my point of reference for this is a ~7 year old Fujitsu Siemens Amilo laptop with an AMD XP1600M which recently died (in truth I killed it whilst performing open-CPU surgery :D )...

On the old lappy, the CPU fan was always on and varied in volume between merely annoying and hideous. No idea what the temps were, but it was quite warm.

My new G50VT on the other hand is silent. I can feel warm air coming out of the vent on the left hand side of the laptop so the fan is clearly on but I can't hear it. That's great obviously, but CPU temps are around 38-43 idle in Vista and 33-40 idle in Win 7 (measured with HWMonitor and with 90 deg C for TJMAX as described elsewhere on the forum), and about 58-59 load in both (using SuperPi to exercise the CPU). Even under load, I can't hear the CPU fan speed up to cool things down further than that.

My question is, is this normal, or should the CPU fan crank up to audible levels? I read (I think in Clutch's review) that it did go up to 4300rpm. Mine certainly doesn't appear to and Speedfan won't report a fan speed to me :(

This is what I get when CPU stressed for couple of mins.
CPU fan doesn't go over 3800RPM
When GPU is stressed, the fan goes up to 4900RPM.

As for idle temps, those are perfectly fine, especially in summer time.
My idle temps usually hover in low 30s and with ambient temps of 81F.

While surfing web and listening to music, temps jump to low 40s and high 30s.

    1. Your performance and numbers are fine - drastic shifts in technology will do that kind of thing to you :)

    2. Speedfan doesn't work with newer Asus notebook motherboards for the last couple of years.

Great, thanks for the reassurance! The thermostat is set to about 78F in the house at present (I'm in Vegas, it's like 103 outside at the moment!) Being British, I think it's about time the US went metric  It would make it easier to correlate CPU to room temps!

What are you using to display CPU fan speeds there? Is it Everest?

    1. Yup, it's all different now! My old Fujitsu had an IGP320 video card, I could just about play Baldur's Gate era games on it. This is the first Intel CPU I have owned since I had a P166MMX. Been AMD ever since.

    2. Any tips for a fan speed monitor? If what xleonid is using is in fact Everest, are there any others that don't have such a large footprint in terms of stuff they monitor and hence (presumably) system resources?

    Cheers

    Richard

Yes, I agree completely. The US should drop SAE and use metric from now on.

Not a prob! It's 95F here in Sacramento, CA. :p

Yes, I am using Everest. Actually, Everest doesn't use your CPU much. At the moment it takes 24mb of RAM, but 0% CPU usage.

EDIT: CPUID Hardware Monitor uses more CPU then Everest. BTW I am used to metric system myself as I am from Eastern Europe originally.

I don't speak metric (i.e. if you said "12.7mm" I would have to convert it in my head to get "0.5 inches") but I'm at least familiar with it.

With your reasonably warm temperatures, your CPU looks good, Tufty.

Hi guys, I am checking my temps on my G50Vt because they seem to be a little higher than they used to be. Right now, with office use, i am at 52 CPU and 54 GPU from everest 4.6 ultimate.
However, my problem is that i don't see any sensor for the fan. It showed up few days back after a reinstall of everest but was either at 100 or 42180 rpm..lol
I can feel air coming slowly out of the vent and NBprobe tells me that the fan is fine.
Any way to get everest to show me the fan speed?

    Thank you

take the back plate off and get a can of compressed air and stick it in the vent while it is off. and watch the dust fly

Hi guys; first time poster, long time lurker. :D

I'd recommend updating Everest Ultimate to the latest version, v5.02.1750 before pulling the back plate off, it might just be that version doesn't read the sensor correctly. Version 5.02.1750 reads all sensors perfectly, you just have to adjust the TJMax to 90°C so that it will report the correct Temp.

I'm in Vegas and also own a G50Vt-X5. If you need any help with it just let me know. So far I've OC'ed the P7450 to 2.4GHz via SetFSB and Under-volt'ed it to 8X @ 0.975V/7X @ 0.925V/6X @ 0.925V via CrystalCPUID. I've also OC'ed the GPU to 660/1650/825 @1.15V (small voltage bump for stability, wasn't 100% stable running Furmark for too long) and Under-volt'ed it on 3D/Throttle/2D to 0.9V/0.85V/0.85V.

I've also have LCDHype running a Custom Version of Sicopoly's Megascript. LCDHype needs Everest Ultimate running in the background to use the info it reads off all the sensors on this laptop, including the fan RPM.

Anyways, let me know if you need any help.
