Hey guys, recently when I've been closing my lid, my computer wont react. wont sleep, hibernate, or turn off the monitor, even if it sits overnight.

I wouldn't be so concerned, but leaving my monitor running overnight cant be good for it right? at the very least it ill just wear out the brightness 2x as fast right?

Anyway, the strange thing is that when the lid is open, the monitor WILL shut off after my specified period of time...just not when it's closed.

Anyone know what i can do to manually turn off my monitor? or what could be causing the lid problem? I know laptops have a little switch that can sense when the monitor is closed...anyone know where i can find that? might it be broken?

I cant help with much, but I use a simple app to turn my monitor off manually.

    http://www.redmondpie.com/downloadscenter/TurnOffLCDv101.zip

Very simple program, I just stick a shortcut on my taskbar, in my quicklaunch area so its easy to click.

Hope someone can help with the other problems, good luck!

I actually had this same problem but it wouldn't always happen: most of the time I would close it and it would sleep automatically but every now and then it just wouldn't work. That program looks great, though.

Does Fn+F7 not turn off the backlight? I use it on my A1 if I have to leave running for a long time.
