    Hey guys,
I've had this Notebook for about 3 months and suddenly my GP no longer downclocks when in 2D Mode (Desktop), it used to just fine. A little concerned and now my GPU idle temps are around 70c....
    Max temp when gaming 94c.

The only time it will downclock is after a cold boot (not re-boot) or when I'm on battery.

Still using original Driver that shipped with it 186.69

Any ideas....othr than a clean re-install of GPU Driver.

is powermizer enabled (nvidia control panel > 3d settings > power management)? gpu-z on xp, running 195.55 bumps clocks up to full for some reason or other on my machine. win7 is ok. check idle with hwmonitor or realtemp.

I don't see any "powermizer" option in NCP.....Idle Temp is the same in both HWM and GPU-Z idle 70c Max clocks.

I always use "Global Settings" in NCP. Just tried a Cold Boot and and now it even boots directly to 3D Clocks.

Just did a clean install of Driver 186.81....Driver Sweeper etc etc...
No difference, still "locked" in 3D Mode Clocks n idle temp 70c...
Huh, I know one of my Desktops had an issue with some Drivers not allowing my 3 x GTX 280's to downclock after exiting 3D Apps, but this simply goes straight to 3D Clocks...anyone?

Also try reinstalling the power management drivers/apps (ATK/ACPI), since those may possibly interfere with the GPU power management.

How about reinstalling the stock drivers that you were using before (after clean removal, of course).

For some reason I'm using power-saving mode in turbo gear and my idle is 55 celsius but the fan on my G72GX is always on...did Asus design it this way?

The only drivers I can get to downclock properly on my G51 are the 186.82's, and have performed great as well. Highly recommend them.

the powermizer option is only available in XP, that option isn't in the winvista/7 drivers last time I checked.

Yeah get the 186.82. Those are the ones that automatically do it. Run great as well.

Any links to 186.82? I'll give those a go. Any of the new 19x.xx Drives fail to allow my GTX 280's to downclock to @D mode when exiting 3D mode......same here I guess.

search the game section for 186.82, there's a whole thread over there with a link... they are the only drivers I've found that actually run great yet also downclock properly. Sorry I don't have the link, but it's been a couple months since I downloaded them. Worth finding though!

The link provided above to the 186.82 Drivers resulted in a "no go" with errors trying to install after Clean uninstall of previous Driver.
However, with that said, problem solved after installing latest n greatest 195.62 WHQL Driver, 260M properly downclocks now and Temps dropped 11c when at idle ;)

Also, Max Temps while gaming reach 88c instead of 94c previous 186.xx Driver.....games also run fine (seems like improved) with this latest n greatest. Downclocks perfectly after exiting 3D apps....very happy ;)

You might want to give Dox's 195.62 v1.1 drivers a whirl. I was running stock 195.62 and was having problems during games with it. Dox's drivers have kept my temps down and let me run my games smoothly. Worth a shot! :D

Are the 195.62 dox much better than the 186.82? Any mark inprovements, or temps? I'm just wondering if it's worth me going through the trouble of changing them only to be disappointed.

Dox claims that his drivers aren't used for benching so you won't be scoring anything higher than other drivers. But his drivers are more optimized for gaming and has been reported to run cooler than stock nvidia drivers.

edit: nvm can't find the posts at this time..will do another search later

^^^ Noneed for to go with anything other than nVidia 195.62 WHQL, as I said, problem solved.

    - No issues at all gaming!
    - Idle Temps now 55 - 57c
    - Load Temps Max 88c
    - Downclock properly

    Perfect!!
