I have been looking at the g51 A1. Does it get warm like the older version the G51 RX05 and also are the gateway p series any laptop. I want it kinda portable kinda long battery. (2+ hours) and I will play rct3 the sims and cod 4, 5, and maybe crysis. Also though off topic can I use Xbox live with a laptop. Thanks
    Opinions and comments please

If you're aiming for battery life at least, get a P series processor and ditch the power hungry quad. Check out newegg for other versions of the G51.

The quad will get warmer, since it has a higher TDP than a p-series Core 2 Duo. Shouldn't be too bad, though. I'm running an X9100 and I'm not having too bad of an issue.

As for battery... well, don't expect to do much if you want to save for two hours.

I'm pretty sure you can't use XBox live with a PC, but I'm hardly an expert.

I do not really care about heat too much but I heard that for the G51 RX05 that they also sold a larger 9 cell battery so do they sell 9 cell batteries for the A1?

    The RX05 comes with a six-cell.

Depending on the reseller you buy the A1 from, you can get an extra battery, be it another 6-cell or a beefy 9-cell.

what is the clock speed of the q9000 with P4G running on extreme turbo mode? I am most likely going to buy this laptop soon.

I think P4G OCs to 20% across the board, so you're looking at a speed of 2.3GHz with the Q9000. You can push it further with SetFSB.

The nine cell off of a G50 will fit the G51 if you need to buy one.

You can download Live for Windows. I know Fallout 3 is one of the games that lets you use it. I actually think you HAVE to have Windows Live to play it.

You can not play with your friends that are on the xbox 360... I tried lol.

Guys i also have a question. As you see I have an average HP dv5t (was awesome just a year ago lol) and I want to get a g51. I was about to do some mods to my dv5t for cooling because this thing gets up to 85 degrees believe it or not. So I was thinking about getting a new laptop anyway and I thought I might as well mod the new one right? SOOOOO does anyone know of any fan mods for the G51. I've looked around a little bit and found out someone was thinking about taking a Y splitter to the main fan and adding another 30 x 30 fan in place of the optical drive. Someone help me. I've seen some of the really scary temps reported for the G51 (90 degrees!).

    Thanks

G51 temps are nothing to worry about. 90C is fine, and the G51s are built for it. If you get lucky you'll find one like mine that posts lower temperatures. Forge is getting ready to add some copper heatsinks to his heatpipe; if it works it should shave a few degrees off the temperature while being both safe and kinda cheap.

For your current HP, though, you might want to try cleaning the fans.

That is what was advertised, but in the RX05 P4G only OC's it by 7.5% on Turbo Extreme. So SetFSB is what you should be using to get more OC.

I've tried to get a very small fan and place it above the GPU and power it form the main fan. However the problem is that there is not enough space between the GPU and the case to fit a 10mm high fan in there. 10mm High is the smallest I found so far. I dont wanna cut the case, simply because it will not look good.

Already done it lol . I also applied new thermal paste. My idle temps went from 51 to 45 and when gaming it hangs around 72 degrees.

If I do get a g51 I don't want it to be at 90 degrees so I might have to see what forge does...
