And I mean issue "fixed" by not having to use a cooler and reapply thermal paste, etc.

There is no word from asus to the retailers on the issue at this time, just said by an xotic rep. As I have observed ASUS hasnt yet to even realize their putting the paste on wrong. But since they havent said anything publicly they may have already corrected that.

G50 owners where already saying the G51 would run hot before it even came out. Its no surprise but its also obvious that there are problems even with the current cooling system that can and need to be fixed.

I dont think any of the current G51 owners have a notebook cooler. What i have observed going through all the same threads you probably have. The paste so far has been applied in the 9800M Fashion which is 45 degrees rotated wrong and slightly off to one side. One users heatsink didnt get the paste more than 50% over the core, another user had 99% coverage but still had the same temps. A new owner is saying he didnt get over 86C in an hour of crysis.

While im semi tempted to pick one of these things up. I think im just gonna save for the M17x or something.

You should NOT have to use a cooling pad on a brand new gaming laptop just to play a game without it overheating.

    But cooling pads always help.

It's too bad xoticpc won't be selling a more basic version like BB's. TBH, I'd prefer a P series processor over the quad because I wouldn't want the additional thermal strain since this laptop seems to be on a tight thermal budget (I'd actually opt for them putting the AS5 in). I'd also like one with a single HDD because I'd add a small SSD for the boot drive.

Since the new G51VX that xotic PC sells is still the same size (15.4") can't you simply upgrade the screen later on if you choose to do so?

Do you have any word of a cheaper version of the G51 coming to XoticPC? I'd really like something in between.

Justin_W, I understand the fact that your configuration is far superior, but as dalin said, a cheaper version would be better since some of us may want only one HDD or a 25W CPU. It sucks that BTO for Asus means you have to charge for the whole component because you can't use a barebones like you do for Sager notebooks.

Justin, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, any idea if the two displays will be swappable? If so, will you guys be able to resell the 1080p display by itself or is that something we'd need to purchase through ASUS directly?

Probably why GenTechPC took the safer route in just not displaying a price yet. Im glad that Xotic put up prices, gives us an idea of what we will need to have.

    Hey Justin_W@XoticPC

Is this thing going to actually see 8Gb of ram or is it going to be like the other systems "(Up to 6.8GB due to Chipset Limitation)"?

The price didn't go up. Xotic's advertises their "cash price" as $1589.83. If you pay by credit card, the price is $1639.
Other resellers also have this "cash price" eg. for gentechpc, just add an item in your cart, and you will see this:
Also, as ClutchX2 mentioned, the PM45 express chipset can fully recognize and utilize 8GB of ram as long as you a 64bit OS is installed (which the G51 has).

That reminds me, I might as well do RAM if I'm planning on changing the CPU

Are there brands I should look for (on Ebay) or is Brand X RAM the same as other RAM?

For example, this looks very intriguing

EEK ebay ram? Who would dare lol. 8GB of DDR 2 is kinda of expensive still. The cheap crap retail is 3x that of 4GB kits and the good stuff is upwards of 6x. The stock 4GB can be had at retail for 40-55 bucks makes me think the price of 8GB just isnt worth it right now.

Based upon CPU-Z validated submissions through the only place you can officially submit them to. I have the highest overclock with a T9600. Anyone who would actuall care would submit. Sadly the ram i have now is not giving me the fsb overclock other G50VT owners are getting i could push this thing straight to 3.64 Ghz in one guys X1.

Submission through canard listing by ripping - http://www.ripping.org/database.php?cpuid=1010

I meant more like laptop HyperX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104026

I talked to jacob his P8400 with the bus at 347mhz (stock is 266 and my highest so far is like 306) is on stock ram and voltages.

I feel I need more voltage to the ram even with the HyperX ive noted 1.8v Hyperx in a desktop responds well at 2.1 volts. SPDTool wouldnt work on the G50 so i cant edit the voltage. The T9600 might need a 0.01 push on the upper end but both CPU's have responded no differently to voltage increases the ram is the limit here.

The card is known to get very hot while playing a game like, let's say Crysis.

If you intend to do a lot of gaming, keep an eye on your temps, and/or get a cooler.

Just because you can't feel the hot air doesn't mean it's not there. Better safe than sorry.

Why are "upgrades" more expensive for the preorder G51 from xoticpc? Looking at some of the other laptops, a T9600 is actually cheaper than a Q9000, but on their customizer its a $376 upgrade. The same with the Blue-Ray at $279, where its only mid $100s for other laptops.

A SATA BluRay drive at retail costs around that, + labor for installation. There are cheaper PATA ones as well as just in general cheaper ones on the market. There price is also no more than ASUS charges for the part as well, I do not know where they source theirs from though. Unlike maybe your local custom pc shop ripping people off they dont shop ebay for your parts and then charge retail. They buy retail as cheap as they can and usually charge a little labor.

T9600 isnt cheaper then free, the Q9000 comes with the laptop price included. These are not barebones note books that they are adding parts to, they come pre assembled from ASUS in mass shipments. This isnt like configuring a pc and waiting for HP to build it from scratch, its a prebuilt computer that you are getting ASUS authorized reseller to perform upgrades.

Remember reseller upgrades typically do not void the warranty as they do when you do them yourself. Resellers can change cpu's and do paste among other things and keep the warranty.

I can explain it to you a million times, people still wont understand how business actually works. I had a convo about this convo with GenTechPC tech support in private, pretty much said what I am saying.

340 from new egg, plus cleaner and paste and atleast a half hour labor to put it on = 376 in the real world. Less labor then it costs to have someone at a dealer install a battery in your car which takes a wrench and about 3 minutes which they charge half hour labor for.

If anyone checks the intel per 1k price which is 316 bucks per cpu, remember Xotic isnt a manufacturer they typically dont purchase 1,000 at a time.

    ...read clutch's post. :)

That clevo is a barebone so it comes with no processor. Thus, $160 is the difference in price between the T9600 and the P8700(P8700 is included in the default price).
The Asus laptop in question is not a barebone however. It comes with a processor so, in order to upgrade it you will have to pay the full price of a new processor.
