I used a semi-permanent method of mounting the blocks. No, it is not thermal epoxy. For the sake of protecting other readers' laptops, I will not discuss it here. However, I will show you a method that is not as permanent but not as thermally effective.

First of all, do not use the stock thermal tape that comes with the heatsinks. They are shoddy and unnecessarily thick, which are two things we do not want when securing the blocks. Buy a roll of Sekisui #5760. http://cgi.ebay.com/Sekisui-5760-Db...in_0?hash=item2a002c314d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14. This is the best thermal tape on the market bar none and has been around for a very long time. I dare say my people make good stuff nowadays. Second, you must make sure that the mounting surface of the block and the heatsink or component are sterile. Use Arcticlean, 91% alcohol, citrus cleaner, water, etc; pick your poison. I cannot stress enough how important it is to clean the surfaces. Lastly, make sure that you outlined a template for how you will arrange the copper and/or aluminium blocks. You guys know your G51's best so it is up to you to develop a blueprint. I doubt that you would be able to fit the 8mm heatsinks in there, but for sure you will be able to get the shorter 5mm and 4mm heatsinks on many key points on the machine.

And this sufficiently radiates heat? Well, obviously, your results prove it, but I'm trying to understand the method. The blocks are just sitting there. They will take heat away from the GPU, but they won't send it off anywhere else.

The fan grill on the M570TU is very thick, so a lot of the intake is also dependant on the other vents scattered all around the bottom of the case. This is basic mech engineering.

From what I understand, they will lift up the heat from the gpu into the atmosphere around it and the fan will vacuum it away.

I dunno if Company of Heroes -Tales of Valor is a GPU intensive game, but I get 95C during heavy fighting (GPU @ the overclocked "normal" clocks, would you say thats ok?

Hmm.....that seems high....what are your temps for other games? Actually, play CoH again, use GPU-Z, go to the second tab, check the log temps and refresh in background boxes, and then send me the log and I can see if its a prolonged high temps or just a spike

That seems kind of high. I hit around there with FurMark on max settings.

95C in a game that could be run on a laptop from about five or so years ago seems too high.

On top of what Tez said I'd use Furmark. The temperature graph FurMark displays is accurate and would let you see how the temperatures react to the fans. I know mine start to level out pretty quickly once the fans kick on.

Before I'm going to play, I'd like to point out that the fan didn't always run on full speed, it went from medium to full a couple of times, so I would guess its a spike. I ddin't use a cooler or anything.

I cant find an option for FurMark to display me a graph, only GPU-Z

So, what are the chances of the g51's dropping like flies in 3 years from the constant heat? I know people are saying that they are designed for the heat...but everyone seems to be modding their laptop to deduce heat?

I feel like it is contradictory...That on one side people say that the heat is normal for a high-end gpu like this, but then everyone is applying paste and some are even modding their cases?

I have read many forums...and I am still confused on whether it is an issue or not? Why would it be talked about so much as an issue if it is not one?

I was thinking about buying the 2.5ghz model of the g51 off of newegg...However, they don't give me the option of having them put paste on the gpu...So I will not be able to apply paste because I do not want to void the warranty...Do you think this laptop will last more than 3 years without the paste? Or even with the paste?

Thanks for all your help and advice over the last few months...

    Adam

Most of the people who are applying paste and trying to get their heat down are people who have put in higher processors or want to overclock their system to the max. In doing this their computers are working harder thus generating more heat so they need better cooling. If you were just going to leave your computer at stock settings or just boost it up a little then you really don't have to worry about the heat.

from what asus says about the heat not being a problem and with a 2 year warranty i wouldn't worry about it to much.

Well.....we won't really know until 3 years down the road. Until now, its all conjecture.

We are trying to reduce heat because it makes us feel less paranoid and it really can't hurt (unless you do it wrong) but there is no evidence right now that if we didn't try all of these things, our computer would die in a year.
