I had to give my G51 to Best Buy so they could send it to Asus for some repairs (I dropped it). This happened to me before with my G50, and BB ended up giving me a G51 because they no longer stocked the G50. Now there's a chance that they give me a G60 to replace my G51; is that a good thing? I've heard that the GTS360 doesn't perform as well as the GTX260.
If BB tries to give me the G60, should I not accept the deal?
As a side note, I had overheating problems when overclocking the G51 -- the driver would stop working in order to prevent GPU damage.

Take the GTX260M

Anyone else?

Id say they both perform equal, until you start overclocking the GTX 260m, in which case you have a MEGA HOT LAPTOP that runs faster... is it worth it? I think the GTS 360m is a great card, but leaves a little to be desired at native resolution and in the overclocking department.
That said, you will get better battery life, a cooler computer, and a very capable card out of the 360m. I'd say that neither card has a STRONG advantage over the other.
As an owner of the GTX 260m, I can tell you that sometimes I really wish I had a less power hungry card.
Check this comparison out...
260m: Notebookcheck: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
360m: Notebookcheck: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M
and keep in mind that ASUS underclocks their 260m's, so out of the box, the GTS 360m performs better. -
i love my new g60jx and i doubt that bb would do the exchange as Asus still makes or has the parts on hand. BB replaced the motherboard and keyboard, and several other things on it and would not replace the laptop with a new one. The G60jx being a core I5 series is much faster at certain things and it is EFI Bios like the MAC i think. The one thing i noticed is that installing windows 7 from my hi speed flash drive takes only 20 minutes or less to do. Then I install all the drivers and software

They should still authorize me for a replacement. I know they had Best Buy replace my G50 with a G51 less than a week after BB stopped carrying the G50; and it's been a lot longer than that since the G60 came out.
Would the 360 perform better with a slight overclock? The fact that it runs cooler is definitely a big thing; the 260 I sent back was reaching 106C in a 73F room while playing almost anything (among other problems). That's without an overclock, and it simply won't do.
If the G60 is better overall after the processor and GPU is factored in, I might just go with that: especially if it can perform as well with a decent overclock. -
Ah, another interesting bit of info is that the GTS360 earned higher marks in Vantage than the 260 did. Too bad there's no game play benchmarks.

Pretty sure your G51 will be replaced. Best Buy doesn't usually fix Asus computers especially the gaming ones. You'll get a G60 and love it! lol

Out of curiosity, they're giving you a G60 jx, right, not a G60 vx? I think Best Buy might still have stock of the G60vx, that's why.
The G60vx is pretty much identical to the G51vx. -

Depends on the best buy really. The tri state area doesn't have any in stock as for most of the US, a couple stores have 1. So your most likely going to receive a G60JX.

Hmm. Maybe I should "accidentally" drop my G51VX and get a free Core i5/i7 laptop...
-
That's what I do. For the cost of a new warranty I can get a new laptop yearly. I call it fiscally responsible future-proofing. Sounds better that way.

If they switch it, it'll be the JX, not the VX. I checked to make sure that's the one they carried.
On a side note, the G73JH they carry is a monster.
G51 or G60 from Best Buy?
