I turned on my G51 in order to browse the internet for a few minutres; the computer had been off for a few hours. As soon as I hit the power button, the fan came on at full speed, even though the computer wasn't warm. I took the battery out and unplug the AC cable. I gave the laptop a few secons, then plugged everything back in and hit the power button.

Now my BIOS loops. The explosion plays, the screen goes black, and a blinking _ symbol appears; after a few seconds this all repeats.

I attempted to access my BIOS, upon which I wa asked for a password (I never set one!). I'm the only person that uses my computer; it never leaves my sight, and was working just fine earlier today.

    Any ideas?

As a head's up, none of my processor overclocks caused a BSOD. The last thing I did was install the DOX drivers and overclock the 260; but I have it set to only overclock when a game comes up. Booting in to Windows causes the standard clocks to be loaded.

Odd. Can you access BIOS, or does the password completely lock you out?

Pull the CMOS battery for half a minute, then put it back in and try again.

The password completely locks me out. None of the passwords I thought I would use for something like that fit in the allocated space of eight or so digits.

I don't think I've seen that under the G51 hood, unless I've completely overlooked it.

It is usually located in a weird position on laptop motherboards so it may take some precise looking.

An alternative is to take out the battery, unplug from AC power, and then press the power button for a while. That may work but if it doesn't, you would have to take out the CMOS battery too

I'm not too familiar with the Asus G51, but on my Clevo it takes a long time for me to get to the CMOS battery as it is on the top side of the motherboard. I need to dismantle the entire chasis to gain access to the top of the motherboard. Hopefully yours is on the bottom side of your motherboard.

Gonna hunt for the battery now.

Any ideas on what to do in case that doesn't work?

Well, getting to the battery isn't happening; I'd have to pretty much take everything off of the board, which I'm not too interested in doing.

    Any other ideas?

Not really....you have tried the no battery or ac and then depressing the power button for ~15 seconds right?

You may have to end up taking it to Best Buy and get them to fix it or RMA it for you.

I did that before coming here.

I just took it back to Best Buy, they're doing an exchange for me instead of making me wait for an RMA (for being a nice guy). They're also switching out the hard drives for me and making sure it isn't a hardware issue. Not really something I couldn't do, but it'll save me some time.
