I spoke to a reseller on Friday and he mention that G51 will be coming with the new calpella processor probably by end of September. Does anyone know how good/improved they are as compared to current processors in G51 ?

The processors on the Calpella platform are based on the new Nehalem architecture so I would expect quite alot of improvements.

Would we be able to install them in the current G51s? It'd be cool if I can drop one in to my RX05.

You shouldn't be able to install Calpella CPUs (ie Arrandale or Clarksdale) into our Montevina platforms.

The Nehalem architecture removes the FSB and thus would require new motherboards.

    Eh, not thanks.

I'll just wait until the T series drops a little bit more. Luckily, my college checks show up at the same time as the Calpellas come out. I'm gonna take advantage of the price drop.

Also, to let you guys know:

Calpella implies having the new chipset, CPU, and wifi all together.

There is no such thing as a calpella processor. The CPUs within calpella are either Clarksdale or Arrandale.

Hopefully it doesnt contribute to the heating issues which presently exists in the G51 models.

Why would a gaming laptop with a GTX260M include hardware from the Capella platform...

 The Calpella platform is an upgrade when compared to the Montevina platform

Did you see the watts those things require? 45-55W for a quad?

The only upgrade im seeing is the 10-25 for the Dual Core options.

Hopefully these things haul a** like the desktop Core i7's do!!!

Great. I've had the RX05 for a month and I'm already starting to wonder if I should sell it.

If it makes you feel any better the performance increase isn't leaps and bounds, and anything with one of those in it is gonna be expensive.

And you can probably score higher with that X9100 you have.

If you're worried about that kind of thing, you should give up on computers. You can't always have the latest stuff lol.

I didn't say I was going to take the feeling seriously. What I have now is perfectly sexy, and I'm going to wait for the mobile i5/i7 line to mature a bit more.

You can put a mobile i5/i7 in to the RX05?

The Calpella platform includes Arrandale/Clarksdale/Clarksfield which are the i3/i5/i7s.

I'm coming from a Q6600 oc'd to 3.8 and an 8800 GTX OC'd to the moon, both running on my custom water cooling kit. That was like $2300+ when everything first came out. I could score like 17,000 in 3dMark06, mostly because of the CPU

This laptop has a graphic card that ALMOST matched my 8800GTX! With my processor it was $1299 In less than two years they have drastically changed the face of mobile gaming/computing. It is only going to move at a faster pace.

Forge, you must be happy with what you have NOW, or else in the computing world you will always be depressed and behind the curve lol.

So you CAN'T put them in the RX05?

    Just making sure.

You can't since it would require switching motherboards to become Nehalem architecture compatible

That's what I figured. I saw that the Sockets were different, but I needed a more definitive answer.

You would need a new mobo, ram, and cpu... which is basically buying a new laptop :)
