G51, how many versions are there?

Hi all, I think I've got my heart set on buying an ASUS G51 laptop in the next few months, and I've been looking at a bunch of them now, but there seems to be a fair number of versions floating around now (by version I mean like the Vx-A1, J-A1 or Vx-RX05). I'm wondering if anyone has a list or knows where I could find a place that lists all of the variations?

The ASUS (global) website doesn't seem much help to me. IIRC, they used to list the different versions back with the G1 / G1S / G1Sn, but when I look at the G51Vx, G51J or G51J 3D pages I see the possibilities but not which version they apply to.

From the looks of it the A1s might be the best versions out there, but I'd like to be able to compare to be sure... Unless there's a general consensus around here that might help.

Any help/info is appreciated.

 

As for the channel versions, here is the main differences:

G51J-A1 w/ 260M GTX, 1920x1080 Display, Dual Hard Drive, and Max 8GB of Ram
G51J-3D w/ 260M GTX, 1366x768 120Hz Display w/ nVidia 3D Vision Glasses, Dual Hard Drive, and Max 8GB of Ram

G51JX-A1 w/ 360M GTS, 1920x1080 Display, Single Hard Drive, and Max 16GB of Ram
G51JX-3D w/ 360M GTS, 1366x768 120Hz Display w/ nVidia 3D Vision Glasses, Single Hard Drive, and Max 16GB of Ram

The JX models are the ones most current that have not arrived yet and on pre order. The J model without 3D might be able to be found on a couple websites as stock is depleting. The J with 3D is just hitting the states and you might find it available form a few resellers within the next day or two.

 

There's also the G51Vx-x3a which is sold only over at Newegg in the U.S., as far as I can tell anyway.

This is an older model, akin to the G51J-A1. The only major differences are that the G51Vx-x3a comes equipped with a single 320 GB HDD and has the P8700 Core 2 Duo instead of the i7 found in the G51Jx-A1.

A lot of people are expecting a refresh of the Newegg model as well, as they've lowered the price over the past few weeks, apparently trying to clear out stock. It's expected the the refresh will have the GTS 360M like the G1JX's, but will have a slower i5 to bring down the price.

Edit: Oh, and the Newegg version doesn't come with the backpack and mouse.

 

Looks like NewEgg.ca has that same model (G51Vx-X3A) too.
Locally, I've found the G51Vx-D1-BIL and G51Vx-X4.
They offer a T6600 C2D instead, and a 500G 5400RPM drive. The D1 doesn't have the 1080p though, which would be nice.

I see the G51Vx-A1 is still available some places in Canada, but (like Justin's told me) the G51J-A1 seems to be disappearing... Is the G51J-A1 is being discontinued???

I'll probably wait to see how reviews of the G51Jx-A1 with GTS 360M turn out but I was really starting to like the looks of the G51J.
