Hey Guys, will be installing a OCZ Vertex 120Gb Drive soon, have a few questions.
1. Is the HD with the OS installed on it the one in the middle (above RAM) or the one to the right? (Notebook upsidedown with cover off looking at two drives)
Are these the steps that would be suffice (I won't be creating a "Ghost" of the old HD)
1. Remove HD with OS installed on it and "temporarily" remove 2nd HD
2. Install new SSD
3. Boot "F9" install Factory "Asus W7 Recovery Media" Disc.
4. Select Recover Windows to entire HD with 2 Partitions (yes I want 2 Partitions on my SSD, one for OS)
5. Insert my "Recovery discs" as prompted ..Question Here: I did make Recovery Discs with AI Recovery Burner - 4 Discs total. Will I be prompted to insert these Discs after initially inserting the 1st Asus Recovery Disc?
6. I take after this I will have W7 OS installed on my SSD.
7. insert Asus Utilities / Drivers Disc and select the Drivers and "wanted" Utilities.
8. Install my 2nd HDD and Format / Make Additional Partitions on it "My Computer/Manage
* I generally do not like to have more than just my one Drive connected when Installing Windows, then connect it after the OS installation.
Does this all sound correct?
Now, also contemplating purchasing / installing W7 Pro, so, basically install new SSD, install W7 Pro OS on it as per normal "Desktop Installation", then insert Asus Notebook Drivers / Utilities disc and select appropriate Drivers and install?
Thanks in advance![]()

EDIT: Misread your question. The OS is installed on the left HDD, the one furthest away from the GPU.
And your installation sounds perfectly fine. And as you sound like you're going to be using a regular retail Win7 disc, you don't have to install Vista first. -
When I flipped my Notebook over and removed the bottom cover, thier is one Drive in the middle, directly above the RAM, the other HD is to the right of it, so the Drive with the OS on it is the one in the middle of the Notebook, above the RAM..correct?
btw...this Notebook came pre-installed W7 not Vista. -

Wait hold on. Dammit, I know I should look at things more closely. I'm talking about a G51vx, which has a chipset and, it looks like, a different HDD configuration. Sorry.
Uh, I guess the only way would be to remove one drive and see if your computer can get into Win7 or not. Or wait for G51j owners. -
Yeah ok thanks....bump..C'mon guys, a lot of "intuitive" Asus owners here (judging by the lenghty Threads on CPU Throttling and BSOD's)........

Bump....c'mon folks any help would be nice
