I'm considering the G51J latop but I see a talk about high temperatures. A lot of the temperatures reported are with upgraded thermal paste even from the resellers, but I'm curious what sort of temps would be expected with stock paste.

I mean some of those posts with "upgraded" thermal paste have temps over 100C when running Furmark and others have as much as 10C less with supposedly the same room temperatures. Some have said that people are getting bad paste jobs and if users can't do it without voiding the warranty, then maybe it's best to just leave it stock and not worry about anything unless it breaks in which case it's a warranty repair.

I'm thinking about getting one with the stock paste and just letting the warranty deal with any problems, but I'm curious what kinds of temps I would expect.

Can anyone share temps (either stock or with upgraded pastes) with a Furmark burn run and what they get from playing Crysis for an hour?

These things can't be all hitting 100C playing games. That's just nuts. 90C I can see and I'd call that "hot", but 100C is just crazy.

No one wants to invite problems though so if 100C is expected, it's almost "asking" for problems IMHO.

    So what's real here?

I thought you could get the G51J with ICD7 from Gentech or some other reseller while keeping your warranty?

Either way, the Core i7 runs hotter than Core2s, and since you are sharing one heatsink output, the GPU will not be cooling as effectively.

My very first G51VX (best buy version) had my GPU running at 102C when gaming. Yes, 102C when doing mostly any gaming.

I only used it for about month, and never once I had problems related to the GPU and that temperature. So! My previous G50vt ran my GPU at 95C and I heavily Overclocked it, and never had problems so I didn't worry with my 102C temp and enjoyed gaming.

This time I chose to get the thermal compound and yeah you retain your warranty if you order that via a reseller. I got much better temps but still I don't worry much about it so I instead go and play games for hours and nevermind my temps haha. If something happens, let the warranty come in.

If you want my temps, the usual are:
    CPU 58-72C
    GPU 63-92C

Those are the most common temps I get on a daily basis.

GPU after 30 mins idle is at 58C (ambient is apx. 22C), peaks at 98 or so in furmark (same ambient).
CPU after 30 mins idle is also around 52-54, peaked at 80 with prime95.

my predicaments exactly, if something happens from now till august 2011, let the warranty come in, ppl needa stop worrying about the temps so goddam much. *for X1A/X2A/X3A/A1 users, RX05 and RBBX05/09 still have 1 year warranty. after that's up, then u can start yo modding and whatnot.
