    Hi all,

Well I bought a refurb after hearing some good reviews all over ebay and the forums but some serious issues, the screen is dead, only a very light blue haze/blotch appears in the bottom left corner. I am awaiting a reply from the seller to see if he will replace, hopefully he foots the return postage bill. If not, I might keep the unit: I was planning to change the screen to a 1200p one so I need to know if its only the screen thats stuffed - when I turn the laptop on I can hear a digital noise from the speakers, kind of like a growl, also the HDD light blinks only once not multiple times, the other 3 lights (ROG and 2 power buttons) always on, I can also hear the fans going on very quietly. Can someone tell me what the startup sequence is like on their RX05? Also, from where can I get a new panel and other parts like the middle and lower casing for when I start modding.

    Thanks.

That growl might be the startup sound, it's like a BOOOOM sound. It's enabled by default, oh joy.

In terms of the screen being dead, try hooking it up to an external VGA monitor. If that works it could be the LVDS cable, which you can check by taking off the left hinge. Don't take it out of the socket but try and push down on it (carefully) to make sure it is fully seated.

Also the standard response would be: try resetting the BIOS, by poking the reset button on the bottom with a paperclip for 10+ seconds.

    Good luck.

I hooked up my desktop LCD monitor using a VGA cable but no luck, I thought perhaps there is a setting in the laptop which must be selected to route the gfx output into the external port?

Bummer. I should have also mentioned to try one stick of RAM at a time, maybe one is bad.

If an external monitor doesn't work, there's a chance that it's your GPU that's dead.

Yea I returned it to him, told him to open up the one he's sending back to me and test it first, apparently ASUS are supposed to test them in the factory but mine obviously wasn't. Another $90 bux in freight down the drain *SIGH*
