    Hi,
Many times when I restart my computer, wake from a sleep mode, or load after hibernation, the wireless connectivity is lost. There is a strong signal in the area where I work (at home), and I have had no problems with the last laptop (ASUS F3Sv) with respect to the wireless connectivity.
I have to manually connect, sometimes try multiple times before I can get connected. Please let me know what the issue might be and how I can counter it. Thanks.

There's a similar problem with the G50. Go in to Power Management and look for the settings that tell your wireless adapter to go to sleep.

I can't remember the exact process, but that's what I did when I had my G50; the problem sounds similar.

I went into the settings. They are set for Maximum Performance. I mean there is only the option of Power Saving Mode. There is nothing there that can tell the Wireless Adapter to go to sleep.

I'll dig around the power settings tomorrow if I get my laptop back to working condition.

You need to go to your control panel. I recommend once going there to switch to classic view and then go to device manager. Find where it says network adapters, click the + symbol and right click each one and go to their properties. From there click the power management tab and uncheck everything. Do this for all the network adapters that are listed and apply the changes.

Your post wasn't specific enough to tell if you meant from the device manager or the power4gear options. Still, I thought I'd double check and post the process here to make it easier.

    doesn't work. does nothing.
should i change my router ... maybe thats where the problem is ... although i do connect my blackberry to wifi without issues and the old laptop had no probs ... this was just over 2 weeks ago that i got this laptop.
could vista 64 bit have anything to do with it? i had vista 32 on the old 1!

I think I have the solution, atleast I haven't had the problem for a day.

I updated the firmware for the router, silly me for not thinking that before. After that I have upgraded the security key level from WEP (I know, so old) to WAP2. Now, the thing works like a charm (fingers crossed).

I'll update here if anything goes wrong or works sweetly after this weekend.

    Hey, OP.

I've been experiencing the same problem on my new G51 Best Buy model that I bought a few days ago, except that it's gotten much worse for me. At the beginning, I was experiencing the dropped connection and forced reconnection every time I restarted the computer. Trying to fix this, I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. After that, I found that my computer couldn't find any network connections at all. I messed with the drivers for over 4 hours after that, uninstalling, reinstalling, going online and DLing drivers, googling, pretty much everything. But to no avail, it's still not picking up any connections.

I am going back to Best Buy tomorrow to hopefully get it fixed. I'll post back results when I find out what is going on. Glad to hear yours got fixed though. If it happens to occur again, I think you should go call up the warranty folks.

Hmm.....this is weird. Some people are getting issues while others have gotten none.....I don't think it is a hardware issue or anything but more of a compatibility issue with the routers.

I've been using wifi since I got my G51 and it has never dropped for me yet.

    This is an interesting idea.

I know that the one I'm using is also an aging router that still uses a WEP key, sort of like OP's before he changed it. In particular, it's some kind of AT&T router that came with my DSL plan a few years ago. I did try to update the firmware earlier, but it appears that my router has been using the most current one, so that isn't the solution.

@OP, do you mind posting some info about your router? Who knows, maybe it this is just a router issue.

I'll have to test again tomorrow if I get a new replacement model.

Alright, I got my replacement model today. I returned the old one with the 14 day return policy at BB.

About the wireless issue, it seems to be working now for the most part. I got one could-not-connect in the several times I've rebooted, so it's been a drastic improvement. I am now inclined to believe that the problem was in my old laptop's network card as opposed to router compatibility or driver issues. I googled around a bit and found that the Intel 5100 AGN, the card that comes with the G51VX-RX05, has had problems occur with it in the past. So maybe it's not so outlandish to believe that it could have been a hardware issue. I personally believe mine had a hardware issue because the card should not have failed to pick up any connections after trying to update drivers a few times.

Anyhow, I couldn't be happier with my G51. Other than that one issue, it's been great to me so far.
