When I received my G51VX-A1 it had the LG BluRay burner installed. The drive was LG model GBW-T10N. Whenever I burned and verified a DVD it would always fail the verify process. It also was quite challenged in reading burned DVD's from my G50VT-A1 (which is also an LG product) - constant read errors and drive re-cycling (slowing down). The drive seemed to work quite well with pressed DVD's. I requested a replacement drive from GenTechPC and one was sent out QUITE promptly - kudos to GenTechPC!

The drive replacement was an LG GBW-B10N. Right from the start I noticed that this drive was a lot quieter than the GBW-T10N. Unfortunately the good news ends there. It also was quite challenged in regards to reading from a burned DVD from my G50VT-A1 as well as the DVD's that it burned on the G51VX-A1. It could however get a successful verification from Memorex dual layer DVD's after burning, but it had to slow all the way down to 1X speed to do that - a 4.5GB burn and verify took 1 hour - this should have been "child's play" for this burner. The drive could read pressed DVD's and BluRay disks with no problems. The firmware of the drive was UV03 (if that makes any difference). Tried looking for updated firmware for this model and came up empty-handed. The single layer DVD's in question have the Philips brand name and I've never had a problem with these DVD's before.

The DVD's that it could not read that were burned on from my G50 were put in other DVD burners/players of other brands and they had no problem reading them at all.

I've given up on the new LG BluRay burners for the time-being - thinking their technology hasn't matured enough yet. Maybe I'll try again in a year or two. I highly advise anyone getting a G51VX-A1 with a LG BluRay burner to VERIFY every DVD you burn. Nero has this capability. I'm sure other (not all) burning software has this capability as well. It may save you a lot of pain down the road.

The standard ASUS DVD burner for my G51 is now on the way.
