I bought the G51VX-A1 about 10 months ago and I've always been happy with it but I recently wanted to get more performance out of it. I know this laptop is very hot but when I saw the actual temps with HW monitor, I was really surprised. My GPU at idle ranges from high 70s to mid 80s (85 right now) and would get up to 105C. I benchmarked with furmark and my temp went up to 108. I used 3dmark06 and my temps were also really hot and my score was only 9100 (after the third try) with overclocking my CPU to 2.4 and undervolting to 1.075 (stock GPU settings).

    3dmark06 with temps:

I've searched these forums and others and I usually see scores around 9500 and up. And average temps from what I've seen are nowhere near mine.

My NVidia driver version is 197.45

I was thinking about applying the paste and doing all the mods to it but since I'm still under warranty and have the accidental damage protection still active, should I contact Asus to see if i have a problem?

If you need any more information please tell me, thank you!

Check out my ASUS G51 Optimization Guide

Its a bit dated in that it was written before Windows 7 came out, but there isn't that much difference between Windows 7 and Vista.

first clean out everything with compressed air.

next see my guide on easy temp reducers. my G51J (hotter laptop thanks to the i7) never goes over 88 in games, and typically runs in the 50's with a light load.
