There IS one other seller selling it for $899.95 but without California taxes. Only issue is that Squaretrade's website doesn't seem to recognize the seller's "final price" even though it's buy it now! I've sent an e-mail.

Screw it! Shelled $600 for a used G50VT-X5.

Since I'm spending $300 less, I'll be keeping this notebook for no more than 2 years. Possibly just 1 if/when Starcraft 2 arrives.

Oh well, too late! Not that I'm regretting it, but for roughly $600, I got the G50VT. I figured since I'm probably not going to use the notebook for more than 2 years, the G50VT's a better deal.

You should've been more patient. The G51 is a better buy. Although I think it's definitely worth spending $1000 on the G60VX. It has a much better screen than either G50/G51. The lid is nicer looking as well.

Did you run your program to see the specs of the screen?

Yes it's a HannStar display. Not the AUO junk that Asus has been putting in the G51 series. If this thing was 900p I would give it a 6.5/10 but because of the lower resolution I give it 6/10. The AUO in comparison I rate a 1/10.

D*mn. These things depreciate so quickly--

Most notebooks depreciate quickly except for macbooks. My gf sold her crappy 2007 generation white macbook with a 2 in scratch on the screen coating + nicks and scratches on the casing for $630. Good luck ever selling an Asus for that price and that sort of damage in 2 years.

"Better buy" is kind of subjective. I don't plan to play heavy graphics games with the G50vt. I'm most likely just going to play Guild Wars, Dragon Age, and Left 4 Dead 2 on it, all at low or medium settings. I'm not the type of guy who shells out money for one game every month. I'll be padded down nicely with 2 or 3 of these until Starcraft 2 comes out. I don't play Crysis.

At $200 less, I can plan on upgrading in no less than 2 years. It would be difficult to justify spending $800+$100 for the notebook and a 3-year warranty if I'm only planning on keeping it 2 years or even less. Laptops have rates of value depreciation. I'm probably going to save more money holding onto the G50VT and reselling it later down the road for $300. I've always had good luck with selling laptops on eBay, but I'm a bit skiddish about spending $900.

EDIT: Better way of looking at it: this is my temporary machine. Spent $600 on this lappy, planning on shelling $1,200 for the ultimate Starcraft 2/home theater rig. Might even toss in an additional $400 or more for a nice speaker/subwoofer rig.

EDIT2: OH ---! I just learned from SQ that they don't provide 3-year warranties on refurbs!
