basically does the G51VX-X1A support quad core processors? i am working on getting one and wanted to upgrade it, but am unsure as to its processor support. so can i put a quadcore in it, and will it work?
thanks for any help!
-
Yes.
Also, try the search function next time -
sorry, new to this thing and i think i used the wrong seach do-diddle, do you know for certain as to quad core support on this model?
-
No
Sorry, but no one has tried it. The A1 definately does. The RX05 definately does not. No one knows if the X1A does nor not. No one has tried it.
-
nergum! i do not want to make the risk of getting a quad and it not working. hasent anyone tried it? (well i suppose it is a new laptop) and why do i get one yes and one no as an answer? plz someone verify either of these two people
-
I am not aware of anyone trying it. I have a QX9300 but am not willing to void the warranty since I am selling.
-
I have permission from the buyer, so I'll be trying this during the weekend
-
awesome!! Mind tossing me a PM with the results when you've done it?
-
Even better, post it publicly in the forum. lol.
-
I will. Won't be until Sunday though, so if someone gets to it sooner that's good
-
So, did you try the quad yesterday or not?
-
Unfortunately my original buyer withdrew, and my new buyer doesn't want me to try it.
-
Awww.... That would have been valuable information. How much is the new buyer offering? Maybe I can go a bit higher
-
well, I suppose you could always ask newegg what motherboard revision the x1A has and compare that to the revision on an -A1 model. The assumption is if the revision on the x1A matches the A1, it will support quads. If you have the same revision as an RX05 (best buy) model, it wont support quads
-
The problem is we don't know whether the difference between the X1A and A1 is enough to prevent quad support -
Take a picture of your MOBO # and post it here, and I'll do the same.
Then we can see what is what.
Just an idea. -

The mobo revision numbers are already confirmed to be different. What we don't know is if the revision on the X1A can support quads, and there's no way to tell yet.
-
Do those revisions mean that the RX05 is incapable of using a quad on a hardware level?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
99% sure that it won't.
-
Yeah, it would make no sense for Asus to have three different motherboard for the same line of computers.
It's probably a money-making scheme for them. They don't want someone to pick up the cheaper RX-05 just to spend less to upgrade to a quad core than it would cost to buy an X1 or X1A. -

And we still don't know if the X1A/X2A can even support quads.
-
No reason they shouldn't support a Socket P quad.
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
That's exactly what we said with the RX05.
Do hope history doesn't repeat itself, though. -
When did we stop hoping for quad support in the RX05?
I didn't get that memo. I'm still waiting for Tev to wave his magic wand. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Tev doesn't write BIOSs.
Thalanix might come up with something, but since a faulty BIOS can brick a system completely, I'll wait for an official Asus one, thank you very much. -
Yeah, samesies. I give it until the end of the year. I'll bet a Slurpee on that.
-
Haha....even if I know how to rewrite BIOSes, I don't even have a quad core to test it out on.......
Anyways, I'm too lazy to even try to begin figuring out how we may get quads to work on it.......the things I'm thinking on working on are just changing the temps that the fans go on or tinkering with the RAM timings.
