    Hello,

I got this notebook notebook from Newegg a week ago and think that it is pretty great. However, I just noticed that the small horizontal piece that is above the camera isnt completely flushed with the rest of the monitor.

Specifically, the right side (the side closest to the microphone) is sticking out a bit and i'm not sure what to really do about it. I can push on it and it'll stay there for about 5 minutes before beginning to stick out again.

The laptop works great. No issue and temps are decent with a laptop cooler.

It just seem like an aesthetic issue to me but i'm not sure what to do about it. Is the piece important at all that i can just leave it as is? Should I even bother contacting Asus about it (or attempt to glue it back in place...though this seems like a bad idea)

If a picture helps, I can try taking one later when I get home. Though it might not be clear to see.

Might have to take a picture of it. I don't have that issue but it looks like the camera is part of the LCD frame which is held in by clips. Maybe someone who has disassembly experience with our notebook could chime in.

If you just got this from Newegg, you got an awesome price on it. I paid $1249 USD for mine just a couple months ago with a measly Bing CB.

If I were you, just to be on the safe side, I'd file a support ticket with ASUS and see what they say. Keep an e-mail log of it. If they request that you send your notebook in for repair, then fire off an RMA request with Newegg and forward your support e-mails that you got from ASUS stating it has to be sent in for repair. Newegg at that point will offer to RMA your notebook for a new one and will pay for shipping (both ways).

-- I had to go through the above to get a broken headphone jack on mine "fixed". Newegg just replaced it with a new one and I haven't looked back.

    Good luck!

    Cheers,
    Kermee

Thanks for the reply. I'll shoot Asus an email when I get home but before then, I took some quick pictures with my phone. Dont mind the picture quality but hopefully everyone can see what I mean.

Only thing I dont know of is if this piece protects against dust or whatnot, but hopefully Asus can give me an answer.

    Quick Update.

I got a reply from Asus and all they said was

"For your problem, I would suggest you sending your laptop back to your reseller for a detailed check.
Please contact your reseller for more information.
    Sorry for the inconvenience."

Guess thats not the same as them saying they want me to send it in to get repaired but i'll shoot off an email to Newegg during my lunch today.

Hopefully someone can jump in and offer some input. If you guys dont think its all that bad, then I might be able to deal with it.

From what I've heard about ASUS RMA's and sending back laptops, to be honest, I'd just leave it as is. Seems like a completely aesthetic issue. Maybe get some glue or something and stick it back to make sure it holds?

Actually, I talked to Newegg's LiveChat today and after showing them the picture and explaining, they did say I can RMA it. Right now the shipping label (Free) is in my inbox.

I'm still debating if its really worth it for this problem. I got a few days to decide what I want to do.

If I was going to keep it, I was thinking of doing the same thing. Getting some kind of glue/super glue and just putting a small spec on the end of the piece and having it pressed on over night.

I would leave it alone if it's just a aesthetic issue. As long as it works and nothing is defect inside, keep it. I wouldn't mess with the camera or you might void your warranty.

Guess I forgot to update but I decided to keep the laptop. Like you guys said its just an aesthetic issue and if something does happen I can always RMA it within my warranty.

And for Masi, the battery life is what you'll expect out of a gaming laptop. 1.5hours seems like a good estimation. Overheating should not be an issue since I played Crysis at 1080p and almost all high settings (believe shaders and something else on med) and temps were in the 87-89 range. With my cheap $10 cooler, it dropped 3 degrees.

And Newegg is actually sold out of the X3A so i'm not sure where else they sell it at.

    Hey thanks for the input!

Do you have an IM? Would be nice to talk to someone who owns the X3A. Im torn between this and the N61JQ.

Edit: Have you notice any bleeding of the lid lights (ROG Logo) through the LCD screen??
