The G51Vx-A1 from GenTech was flown in overnight via UPS today!!! Two things I can tell you right off the bat:
A/C Power supply is exactly the same as the G50Vt.
Battery is exactly the same as the G50Vt.
Much more to come - setting it up for a little gaming test drive.
Windows scoring index=5.8 with the bottleneck being both the GPU and hard drive - 5.8 on both.
For the specs on this puppy see my sig.
-
Also, the BIOS version is indeed 2.03.
I haven't upped it to 8GB yet nor have I thrown in the dual 500GB 7200 drives in RAID0. I'll do that later on tonight. I suspect the hard drives will no longer be a bottleneck in the Windows scoring. We will see. -
linuxguy,
Mine comes in today too so I'm pretty excited to get home from work.
Is your Blu-Ray burner easily removable? I ordered mine from Newegg so I couldn't customize it (but got 12 months no interest to pay it off) and the Newegg version doesn't come with a Blu-Ray. If it's removable, can you post brand/part number so I can look into upgrading in the future?
The only laptops i've ever had have been Dells, and their CD/DVD drives pop in and out with the press of a button...are these Asus laptops similar? or does the laptop need to be taken apart?
Thanks! -

The Blu-Ray burner is removable - I've never done it but I think it requires one screw to remove and then it should pull out.
I'll find out the make/model for you. -

I could have been the first person with a QX9300-equiped G51. Curse you motherboard, curse you.
Congratulations on the machine, by the way. I eagerly await your benchmark scores. -
Congrats......cant wait for more impressions/thoughts

It's all good. I got some nice money for my pains, and the X9100 is a superb procesor.

Ok. Here is what I have for 3D Mark '06 scores. No mods or alterations - just right out of the box. Note that to get 3d Mark '06 to work properly on the G51 you need to install a patch from Asus! Just download it from the "Others" section of the G51 support downloads.
This is my first time to use imageshack, so ....

Would you mind doing 1280x768 so the Best Buy owners can compare?
Which would make me feel very small, I think. Optimized and overclocked, I hit 13339. My best recorded score is in my signature. I'm thinking once you do the optimization process you'll blow past 15000 at similar resolutions. -
Can't do 1280x768. Closest is 1280x720. Should be close enough.

Can you do a video of it in the dark with all the lights flashing and with the keyboard lights on?
-
Just to clear up any confusion about the lid design of the G51Vx-A1- it's the black/blue design, not the white one like BB's.
-
I'm going to up the memory to 8GB and throw in the 1TB RAID0 drives and do a complete re-install. I'll try to get to everybody's questions when I'm done. This will take quite a while.....

Yeesh. You definitely got a powerhouse there. -
-
Congrats on the new laptop. My A1 from Excaliber PC is supposed to be delivered on Monday Aug. 3rd. Then the upgrades begin....
-
@ Linuxguy
Can you verify if the screen is LED backlight as well. As I mentioned before both the Specs posted on the ASUS website as well as individuals at ASUS confirmed that even the 1920x1080 screen has the LED backlight like the BB model.
Also how does the screen look and what about what the current BB models suffer from... how are the viewing angles. -

I don't really understand computer temperatures, so 100 degrees fer is obviously too hot right?
So the QX9300 runs to hot on the machine making it overheat?
Someone please explain computer temps, what are the norms and highs? -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
100 won't cause your computer to melt, no, but it's not healthy in the long run to keep it that hot over any period of time.
The Asus people knew that this thing would run hot, so you won't suffer damage even if you manage to hit 100C.
For the G51 do your best to keep GPU temperatures below 93C, and optimally shoot for no more than 90C. For CPU's try not to go above 75C, which shouldn't be hard since I have a hot processor and the only time I went over 72C is when I was doing a long Orthos test. -
Forge so the pic that Linux posted on his cpu and gpu temp 260m/q9300 is good?
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/410/hwmtempsfor3dmark06.jpg
It probably gets hot on the left side of the computer right under the wsad keys? -

Nice 3Dmark scores, this thing will be sweet with an overclock
-
Does the BIOS support mulltiplyer overclocking? As it is an extreme edition CPU, it would be a v. good feature to have.
-
I don't think so. Laptop motherboards in general don't allow that. I don't think any of the gamer laptops with extreme CPUs have been able to do so.
-

We'll, I can take a look, if someone can tell me how to test for that.
-
@linuxguy
what did the package come with? can you post a pic of the accessories? backpack, eee stick etc.?
thanks -
i posted the same question in another thread but prolly a better idea to ask a lucky owner so far, i'm curious more to the color of the dam backpack :/ -
I'll be receving my A1 laptop early this week, i'll post here when I know the color
-
When you get your A1 the EEE stuff is stashed in the laptop bag.
