How about the temperature after gaming? and how about LED display contrast? I've read in german sites that stated this laptop has poor contrast display.

haha i believe those are the temps durin gaming. although they seem a lil too good to be true...but anyways, :( no white lid. i saw the excaliber and it gave me joy to see that when they listed their one, it was with the white pictures.

agree...I really need a laptop and i was aiming for the A1 because it was kickass both for performance and look... however, I find the black lid to be pretty horrible... hopefully by the time it gets to canada the white one will be available (fingers crossed!)

and as for the benchmarks posted on GenTech, those were with the default, built in OC right? and stock GPU clocks?

haha of course not, but i find it more...low profile? I need a PC I'll be able to take anywhere with me and even if the white lid is more eyecatching, I think it looks less childish... Anyway it's more of a personnal taste, and if I can't have any control on it, why bother! the guts are still the same; awesome!

Generally, games don't heat up your CPU much. It's the GPU that takes the beating.

Ken, for the AS5 on the GPU, did you modify anything? Mine came with a thermal pad/heat spreader and I think the interfaces might not be sitting flush with each other. I'm worried that if I remove the thermal pad and do AS5 I'm going to end up getting overheating issues like another user had.

By the way, what would have been a sweet cover detail would be the white lid with some black streamers.

Ever the stickler for detail... but how does the 1080 screen fare when it's scaling lower resolutions.

If I wanted to drop the res of Crysis at high/very high details to get decent framerates - say 1600x900 - does the screen look particularly fuzzy when this res is scaled to full-screen?

Native res is always preferrable (which is why I'm trying to hold out for the G60vx with the 1366x768 panel) but it'd be a shame to have to turn all that eye-candy off just to get it running above 25fps at 1920x1080.

I've never tried it, but turning down the resolution and having anti-aliasing sharpens the image.

That's after I exit Crysis demo to get the screenshot, in-game temperature? I think around 90~95*C.

For benchmarks it was overclocked but not much, Q9000 can only OC to 2.15 GHz and QX9300 up to 2.7GHz.

So basically the new Asus G51Vx-A1 the cooling systems isn't that good?
Meaning lots of overheating for long periods of gaming?

"over"heating assumes that its dangerously hot...according to Asus, they are safe temperatures, so the cooling system is fine. If anything happens to them, you are either covered through Asus's warranty, or I would recommend getting Best Buy's warranty if you arent getting it from a reseller...

    He means an x* variant.

For example, there are the high-end G50vt-A1, and the cheaper-but-still-powerful G50vt-X6.

not really, i wanted one with less specs, preferably a 25W TDP C2D and it should be cheaper. That Newegg one is just the A1 costing 60bucks more than gentech, xotic and 200USD less than excaliber's eBay listing of A1 (includes the bing.com cashback.)

    ^^ YEA EXACTLY!!!!!!!

I ordered one of the A1's from Newegg today, but (as you know) it doesn't come with the Blu-Ray option. Does anyone know what Blu-Ray drive(s) are compatible and what else might be required for an upgrade (software?)?

I only ordered it from Newegg because I've got 12 months with no interest on a preferred account there...otherwise I would have ordered it somewhere else and just got it with Blu-Ray to begin with.

    Thanks!
Edit: posted me question in its own thread so it doesnt get lost in here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=404441 thanks again.

FYI for you canadian mofos waiting on preorders, i had confirmation from the ASUS rep here on the westcoast that shipments are in the air as i type this (though i didnt get word if it was for nationwide or just westcoast) my preorder i can expect it either early to mid next week *crosses fingers* to the latest, early the following week.

one question if you guys stateside might know seeing as some of you have the unit already,

i have a chance of getting the low latency kingston hyperx 6400 ramset (forgot the product number)but because it hasnt been tested with the g51vx (according to the kingston rep o_O) they cant guarantee that they work with the g51, any of you guys upgraded to that ram? or would suggest a different ramset that works? LMK
also anyone have any success in changin the ram timing on the hyperx 4gb set? dammit i should just start a new thread :/

    thanks!

How are the LCD's viewing angles? The G51-RX05's vertical view angles were too small for my taste, hope the 1080p LCD is better.

If you guys want to buy this, check ebay. excaliberpc and btotech are both(authorized asus resellers) selling this on there for $1599.99 with free shipping. Don't forget that 8%($128) cashback and the $31.98 ebay bucks. Oh and the $100 rebate from ASUS so the total comes to 1600-128-32-100=$1340 :D

In my opinion, yes. Buy it from an authorized reseller that has the capability of putting AS5 on both the GPU and CPU. I *highly* recommend GentechPC. They did an excellent job with mine and are very courteous and professional. E-mail responses were very fast. It's hard to find companies of their caliber.

The Eee Stick software is on its own DVD. I Haven't had the chance to install it yet but here are the games:

    1. Zuma
    2. Heavy Weapon
    3. Sega Bass
    4. Polar Golfer
    5. 5 Spots
    6. Etch-A-Sketch
    7. Malu
    8. Feeding Frenzy 2
    9. Astro Avenger 2

In regards to the backpack color, yes it is the green/gray backpack like the G50Vt-A1 had.

Go to bing.com and do a seach for asus laptop. You must use "buy it now" and Paypal to collect the savings. You should see a link to Ebay for the 8% cash back. You will also need a free bing, ebay and paypal account.
