Well I am sorry to say I just contacted Newegg.ca to RMA my G51j. The laptop has many strong points for sure but there a couple of issues I just can't get past and annoy me.

    1. My bluetooth keeps dropping, I updated drivers etc and no luck, I can live with it but I find it annoying.
    2. BSOD in COD4 and I love that game. I know it will probably be fixed with a BIOS update but just annoying a new GAMING laptop BSODs on my favorite game. Again I could probably live with that and wait for a fix.
    3. Last but not least is the screen. It drives me crazy! I read in another post someone describe it as grey soup at startup and he hit the nail on the head. The contrast is terrible and the vertical viewing angles are as bad if not worse.

I really wanted to like this laptop and keep if for at least two years as I have gone through 3 in the last year. It has plenty of strong points such as price, proc, gpu, backlit keyboard but I can't get past that terrible screen. I really liked the mouse and bag that came with it but ASUS should really have made the screen a top priority and forget the extras.

On the good side Newegg.ca was willing to give me full refund so I am going to wait for a few reviews of the Sager NP8690 and then probably order it from Xotic. Hopefully this post will save some people the hassle I went through.

I have no problems with the screen but then I am not a bleeding edge graphix snob. I am however disappointed with the sound, I am actually thinking on installing games on my x83 see how it goes, if it is good I might rma mine get another x83 :p lol [IMG]

I felt the same about the LCD, it was the worst I ever used (my HP tablet had nicer colors). I'm getting the 8690 tomrorow, it's also an AUO panel like the Asus but a different model. If it sucks just like the Asus display, I'll post an update.

Yes, it helped a bit but I am still unhappy with it. I am not expecting perfection but this is bordering on junk.

AUO people ... I do feel bad for you. Thank God I have a Hann Star, was hoping for an LG or Samsung but I am pleasantly surprised.

My two year old G2S has a ton of blacklight bleed and doesn't display black levels too either....so I'm pretty sure when I get a G51J for myself that it won't bother me too much as I'm pretty much used to it already.

If anyone has seen the screen in the G2S and the screen in the G51J and can compare the black level and backlight bleed and they are about the same it will just confirm that I will be happy with owning the G51J when I can finally order one. The low sound issue I don't think will even be an issue for me...when i game I usually put on headphones anyway.

im hoping they fix the bsod issue soon... a gaming laptop that cant game (on stock settings) is a bit counter-intuitive.
no problem with sound. cod is more than enough @ 50% OS, CoD slider at 1/5th, and headphones barely above minimum.
screen is a letdown, but 1080p for the price isn't bad. in nvcpl, changing it to 40% brightness, 55 dv, 55 contrast is what i use.

digitil vibrance. doesn't look that much different from the default 50%... i just noticed the settings don't persist without nvidia's driver service running.

I've discovered a way to improve the G51's display:

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ffo-o262prA&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ffo-o262prA&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='425' height="344"></embed></object>

It gets here today, its out for delivery. But I told you before, if you want a gaming notebook guaranteed to have a good (LG) screen, get the Alienware M15x.
