Hi. The LED lights on the lid and the lid logo are annoying. Has anyone figured out how to turn them off yet?
Thanks

The easiest way to do it is to remove the 6 screws that hold the bezel on and disconnect the far left connector that is on the small board to turn off.
The board is the lighting board for the lid. The two small connectors on either end are for the side bars and the two center flex print connectors are for the solid bar and ROG logo respectfully. -
thanks dobosininja. Will this void my warranty?
-
No, it won't. One of the better things I've done on my G50vt

Where are the screws that hold on the bezel? ok I feel like an idiot... is there a document on the web that indicates this stuff?
Also... I have a G50vt-x6. I like the plain ol' Black lid cover on that one. is it possible to swap out the lids? I think they're similar dimensions. I hope this doesn't void my warranty either... -
There are 6 screws, 4 behind the small circular rubber feet on the corners and two near the camera under the rubber piece there. Carefully lift up the side closest to the camera and you should see the screw.
The lids are interchangeable, but if you want to keep the led screen of the g51 you have to completely disassemble the screen and place it in the lid from the other lid. If you are not worried about it you can pull the wireless wires out, disconnect the connectors and unscrew the 6 screws (2 holding each hinge and one for each ground wire) and just straight swap the lids. -
ok thanks. Iwill pull the rubber off and remove those screws.
Ewwyuck, seems like a lot of work to swap the lids. I'm too lazy for that -

Just to clarify the reply, as long as the change does not cause any damage to the unit, your warranty will remain intact. IF you do the procedure and in the process damage any parts within the general location of your mod, your warranty will be considered null and void when you request for service. Please do not hesitate to PM me if you have specific warranty related questions.

Hi all. Someone with the G51JX-X3, not A1 can you please tell me if the horizontal light strip on the bottom of the logo lights up? The A1 it does not because I hear that Asus did not put a cable in there. So, G51JX-X3 horizontal light lights up? Thanks.

Just my two cents -
This is a VERY esay mod and I was able to pull it off with no problems. I am a total noob. Completely worth the effort.
Also you can do basically the same thing with your Razer mouse, but it will void it's warranty. I much prefer laptops that don't illuminate my room...
To mod the mouse, you just need to take off the bottom pads - the screws are underneath.
There are very similar connectors inside the mouse, as to the ASUS, for the LED lights. One of the lights I had to actually break with a screwdriver though. Not a graceful mod, but it worked. -
Anybody with an X3 model?

Interesting... Look at this guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=461175
Do you see the 2 blue flex print connectors in the photo of the orange G50vt? When I removed the bezel on my G51jx-x3 only one of those blue connectors was connected. The was no cable for the second connector. So it's probably been disabled on purpose.
I also have a G50vt-x6 that I bought from Newegg and the horizontal light on it is working fine.
But regardless, I recommend removing the bezel and turning all the lights off. It's much better this way
