G51vx - Is it just mine or is the inbuilt mic absolutely terrible?

I only just tried the inbuilt mic now but my god it's terrible. It sounds like a video recorded from a mobile/cell phone. If you speak RIGHT into it, it sounds a bit better but there's so much echo and it's not clear at all. I've tried tweaking the mic levels and microphone boost levels but it still sounds this bad. My M1530's inbuilt mic is as clear as a headset mic, only that it's from a distance.

Is this normal? I've attached a sample...

This is ridiculous. Even my eeepc had a better mic than this.

Have you tried enabling the echo cancellation feature in your realtek audio manager?

What the hec. I had noise suppression and acoustic echo cancellation ticked in the audio options through control panels (mic properties>enhancements tab). As soon as I unticked them, all the echo has gone and it's A LOT clearer. Ticking it is meant to turn it on though....it says 'tick to apply'...

Look at these pictures. This is what they were set to and the mic sounded like crap. As soon as I turned them off, the mic sounds good. I'm so confused. Shouldn't turning them on make the mic sound better??

Edit: Ok it's noise suppression that's the problem. This stupid 'enhancement' blocks out background noise but makes the mic sound like crap. Solution = turn it off. Any other problems and just turn off echo cancellation.

Thanks for that heads up David.

That's weird, I don't have an option to uncheck Noise Suppression or Acoustic Echo Cancellation. All that's there is DC Offset Cancellation which is unchecked.

In the realtek manager, the little bullet for Noise Suppression is checked, but the entire thing is greyed out. Oh well, I use a headset anyways.

    Is your mic turned on/enabled?
