    hey

this might've been answered already. I know it doesn't take the QUad Core CPus. Can this Laptop take the Core 2 Extreme Series? like the X9100?

Get a T9900 it's the same as the X9100 and you can get it much cheaper.
And the X9100 TDP 44W T9900 is 35W which would make your CPU to run cooler.

there is no performance difference. the X9100 just has unlocked multipliers, which is useless as the G51's bios cannot make use of those multipliers.

What about the P series? the difference is FSB which is 1066 on the series and 800mhz on the T series and also wattage, THe DDR2 RAM is at 800Mhz anyways, right? SO it is sensible to just get the T series, actually the T9900's are at the same $499.00 price range. thats crazy, but it is for the performance, i may just go lower if it's worth it, maybe to 2.8GHZ.

What all will you be doing with the CPU? if you're just going to be doing gaming I'd just get the X3A from newegg. you'll get a better warranty, and you'll not need to change the CPU yourself. it'd save you a fair bit of money and its easily OC'able (in my personal experience) to 2.8-3.0GHz

it's just gaming, yeah it's to late, i already had the Best Buy Version since July, afterwards I went through these forums and found out about the original G51vx and all the other Variants. I mean right now it's ok, but I know the one bottleneck I have is the CPU, 2.00GHZ can't cut it for all the current, most of them yes, but some with max setting such as Prototype at Native Res or on 1920x1080 on external LCD of course, slows down, unless I overclock to 2.40ghz, yes i get a pretty decent jump in Performance overall, smoother gameplay. the requirements for that game however was 2.50ghz and higher. thats why i was thinking to just upgrade the CPU to at least 2.8, since It's kinda late to switch to the a1 and other variants. since I can't go for the i7's or at least Quad Core with the rx05 version, i might as well max out the CPU, so it would handle any game that comes out now until a long time for now. Like I said though, alot of great games runs just fine at 2.00 GHZ.

If you already own a G51VX, and just wanna upgrade the CPU, then just go with T9900/P9700, i thought the T would be a net a lot higher temps than the P, but its not been my case (some say it would on load, but hasnt been my case either), but just to be sure you could go with P9700 although it not easy to get, mostly ebay cpu atm, but the T9900 seems a really nice CPU, and there was an offer some days ago going very cheap, T9900 $340.

That's okay. I already scored a sweet deal with a friend of mine for a $600 OEM 920XM and I was asking to see if there are any 920XM's lower than $600 before I buy it from him.

I'm all Siberian Russian, (atleast I wish I were). Russians know how to make the best deals. Southeast Asians barter for cooked duck and bootleg DVD's. Russians hunt for bargain plutonium to put in their portable nuclear RPG's.
