Hi,
Did anyone order the G51VX-A1 from online Asus reseller?
This model seems to start appearing on many reseller's site.
If anyone (or representative of reseller) has this model on hand, can you verify the BIOS version of the model? Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

And, is this the only reseller model?

I think I'm pretty much in the same boat ronli_84...
I've got a Q9100 ES (QGMU) sitting on my desk that I'd love to use... Hopefully an A1 bios shows up on ASUS's website...and cross your fingers that it's not version 202 or 203...
If anyone happens get their hands on a G51VX-A1...there is more than one person here that would *really* love to know what bios revision the machine shipped with.
I've got a chance to return this Q9100 and exchange it for an X9100(+$20)...It's pretty tempting but I think I'll take a chance and play the waiting game.

My OEM QX9300 is crying out in pain.
-
Gave up my chance to exchange... hope things will work out in a few weeks. -
I too have pre-ordered this, maybe one day i'll up the CPU to QX9300. But for now, it is quite Crysis-worthy! Maybe not Crysis 2 though.
My Canadian reseller is sticking with early August.. hoping its within the first week. -
In regards to models on-hand by the resellers, they haven't received shipments yet. That's what we're all waiting on. -

I was told by my retailed (local computer shop), that they are only receiving 2 of these laptops, due to the predicted high demand/supply of this laptop. And I am first in line!

Also, I think Ron took a look at the BIOS in some program and noticed there is very little changed in relation to CPUs, and probably not worth the time.
By the way, we all love you, Ken. No homo.

Yep. My G51 came with 203(dated 5/27). I thought most had 203... in fact I've only seen 1 report of a machine running 202... on a youtube video or something.
On a side note...I replaced the stock thermal paste, on the cpu, with some MX-2 and my temps dropped ~ 4-5c while running prime for an hour @ 2.45GHz. Next on my list is a decent notebook cooler...
So what do you guys think... X9100 or chance waiting on a bios update to run the Q9100? I guess I don't really need the quad... I've got an i7 (W3520 D0) in my desktop @ 4.55GHz for the quad stuff... -
I did some investigation on the G60 203 bios using the mmtools.
The 203 seems to inherit the same issue (missing microcodes) from the G50 bios as outlined in post #24 at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=377597&page=3
Using the mmtools, you can also see that the G71 bios suports way more cpu's than the 203. -

If anyone want to try, I asked Asus tech to save the BIOS from the actual unit of G51Vx-A1:
http://www.gentechpc.com/Asus/G51Vx/G51VX203.zip
According to Asus, QX9300 is also supported, if it's not working could be because it's ES version. -
Ken ~~~ is any dates yet ??

I'm really freaked out about BIOS updating though. Overclocking is one thing, bricking through a freak BIOS accident is another.
Since I know nothing about BIOS, do I just unzip the file, load it onto a flash drive, and run EZ Flash in BIOS setup? OR do I have to do something to the raw file, like change its extension?
EDIT: Is this correct? I understand it's for a different kind of motherboard, but is that the general idea?
EDIT2: Above posts rendered moot. I am fifteen minutes into running BIOS 203 and nothing amiss. Here we go... -

BIOS works like a charm. Processor... not so much.
My situation has not changed. Still hangs up on Vista loading screen and won't even enter POST on battery power. BIOS setup confirms my processor.
Note that this is an OEM SLB5J QX9300 processor. -
I guess I won't even bother flashing 203 again then. Just an FYI...ASUS finally put the G51VX files/drivers/bios on their support site...although I think the site just went down... I was able to get to the G51VX download page just to see that they finally uploaded all the stuff for it and then bam...didn't even get to see which bios they have. I'm guessing it's 203 though...
I think I'll just pick an X9100 and call it a day...
Edit: Yeah, it's 203. Boo. X9100 here I come...it's not like an OC's X9100 would really hold back the GTX260m anyway...considering it's basically equals a lower clocked 9800GT(desktop version)... I've got an SSD on the way to use as an OS drive and for a few games and then I'm done messing with this thing. It was a great deal for $999 and I want it to stay that way. -
The BIOS on the ASUS website is the 203 version. I do feel the need to download it, as my T9800 works flawlessly. I really hope that Forge can get that QX to work, I want to see what it can do!

I'm not planning on selling it. Unless I flash the BIOS from a quad-equiped A1 and it still doesn't work.

I'll try, but I think that was the only one he had on hand.

Well I got my X9100 in the mail today and it runs great. I'm running it at 3.3GHz so far. It's an ES QHBQ E0. Ran an hour of prime and temps are actually great which is not what I expected... on average 2c - 3c cooler while running prime @ 3.3GHz vs the stock cpu @ 2.45GHz. I also installed Win 7 64bit RC and a 64GB SSD as the OS drive(using the stock HDD for storage)... everything is MUCH faster.
Hopefully a new bios with quad support will show up soon. Maybe in 6 months I'll sell this X9100 and pick up a QX9300. I'd really like to see how hot they run in this machine first though. -
Has this been released yet? XoticPC is still showing preorder status
G51vx-a1?
