so i searched the forums and seen people mostly complain about the low volumes, though its a long shot because i may know the problem already, i'm just hoping it isn't it as i seriously don't want to RMA this badboy so early in it's life with me she may forget who i am![]()
i have no sound coming from the on board speakers![]()
yes it has sound from the headset plugs, and yes i know its probably the problem but i was hoping , just wishing that maybe it wasn't and that someone here knows the fix so i wouldnt have to send it back :/
Also, no one has mentioned this but i noticed that the g51vx-a1 has creative x-fi installed which disables the onboard srs *see attached SS*
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/6751/srsdisabled1l.jpg
would deleting the creative x-fi software in turn enable srs which would result in higher volumes? anyone care to try?
as far as i know the laptop doesnt have any creative hardware installed though i could be wrong.
any thoughts anyone?
i'd give it a go but since my speakers don't work ATM i cant test *sigh*
One more, is a stuck red pixel considered a "bright" or "dark" pixel? yea i have one though its off to the corner i still know its there LOL
and is there a way to lessen the well known optical drive vibration noise? its just out of control, especially when installing progs/games, i was thinking of adding a sliver of deadmat for vehicles but maybe someone else has a mickey mouse solution would be great.
and one more question i hope someone can answer,
where can i find a skin for the g51(a1)? the only place i can find that has them (including ebay) is xotic unfortunately the don't sell it without a unit purchase :/
anyways thanks in advance.

Mine had the same problem. Turns out the switch inside of the headphone jack broke, and caused the laptop to think there were head phones plugged in, even when there weren't. I don't know if this is causing your problem, but try this fix and see if it works:
Run > RegEdit > Edit > Find > "ForceDisableJD" (no quotes) > Right-click "Modify" change the last to digits to "01" (no quotes).
If it doens't work, leave the value as "01" until you DO get it to work, that way you can rule out a hardware problem. When you fix whatever is wrong, simply switch it back to "00." -
yea i was hoping it wouldn't be hardware related, this hapened to my other asus and it was a PIA to RMA for such a tiny little issue, in any case i'm glad i hadn't taken it apart yet
-
So did the regedit work?
-
nope it didnt, i'm gonna go back and do a system restore to a couple days ago and see if that doesnt change anything

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
That reminds me, I need to do a full system wipe before the new semester starts next week. My OS is in shambles right now.
-
Eh, that sucks. I just keep mine nice and streamlined.
That, and CCleaner+JKDefrag=system upkeep. -
since i've had the unit for less than 5 days, i'm gonna bring it back to my reseller and see it they are willing to switch it out this should be considered a manufacturers defect right?

mk1freak. If that red pixel is always red in a black background, then you have a stuck pixel. It is not a dead pixel as only the red subpixel is always on or off. You can either physically tap at it with your knuckle or run a screen scrambler for an hour or two. The new panel I put in my notebook last week had a blue stuck pixel in the left sector so I ran a scrambler overnight and it disappeared like magic.
-
Did you turn off sound at POST through the BIOS?
If you did so, that turns off sound period on everything. -
mk1freak, don't they have a 15 day (or 30) return policy for damaged gear? Would be nice if you could just exchange it if the problem persists. I guess you just need to find out if it's damaged or if its just in the settings somewhere.
I don't know how this works, just wondering myself. I will most likely be picking up my Asus from a local reseller. -
@ soviet - tried scrambler overnight didnt work (neither did the tapping)
@dune yea i'm checking on the defective merchandise warranty today
@tev - dude that worked, but i'm stuck with the explosion sound lol i wonder if ASUS' fancy start changes it? -
Enable quiet boot and you can get rid of that sound.
-
-
Also would it be possible to find where that sound is stored and replace it with another audio file with the same name?
-
im going to uninstall the creativ mb software suite and see if that changes anything, just gonna make sure the program is on the drivers disc first just in case, ill post results here later
-
Nope. It's either explosions or nothing. -
Oh that's a bios sound? Never mind then.
Thought it was like a windows start up sound which you can change. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
I find the explosion to be endearing
-
I do think its possible via the fancystart option in the BIOS and then another program but I haven't really looked into that yet
-
fancystart does indeed change the start up graphic to a image of choice though it needs to be enabled in bios then through the fancystart program in vista, and it also changes sound
-
just let it sound and compete against the mac guys with their apple logo sound during their macbook pro startups lol
